Axle Pairs?

Featured Replies

I managed to pick up a screw in the rear tyre this morning after carving through some debri on the M4....

No problem, drop it off at the local Kwik Fit on the way into the office and call back later to collect.

Ring Ring, Mr. Ward we have replaced your tyre sir... OK, great thanks I said.

It turned out that they had replaced the Dunlop with a Pirelli, and my immediate reaction was why did you do that.... 2 reasons he said

1. We have been told by the lease company that we can only authorise certain makes (dunlops not one of them)

2. We dont have the Dunlops in that size anyway.

I have reluctantly driven away as both the lease company and Skoda UK say the Pirelli is compatable with the Dunlop so should not cause any problems.

Anybody know of any issues with not using axle spares (huge problem in the old Lexus IS200).

Not a P6000 is it? :)

As long as the tread patterns are similar, then I don't see a major problem. I would always replace a pair mind, or atleast like with like.

Yeah - how do you guess?

Pirelli P6000 225/45 R 17 91Y

old tyre was a Dunlop SP SPORT 225/45 ZR17 91W

The tread also look completly different to the Dunlop on the other side??

Anyone know what the 'Z' is?

Anyone know what the 91Y 91W

Should I be concerned about these differences?

I have worked out the letter after 91, but what's the 'Z' before the inch size, and whats the significance of the 91 before the Y/W?

Rating - Miles/Hour - Kilometers/Hour

N 87 - 140

P 93 - 150

Q 99 - 160

R 106 - 170

S 112 - 180

T 118 - 190

U 124 - 200

H 130 - 210

V 149 - 240

Z 150+ - 240+

W 168 - 270

Y 186 - 300

The 91 is a load rating, IIRC.

Yeah - how do you guess?

Pirelli P6000 225/45 R 17 91Y

'Cause that's what Kwik fit always put on lease cars. It's a very old design, but in it's day was well regarded. Things have moved on though.
