Anyone colour coded chrome grill surround?

Featured Replies

I've got a price of

Send a PM to roo, as he has his grill painted.

I reckon it looks really good in the black...but not too sure about the blue?!

My bodyshop had to sand the chrome straight off said it was a right bugger, they did it tho, and it looks goood

I've got a price of £46 for a new grill surround and a price of circa £60 for spraying BUT the body shop reckon they can't spray onto chrome as the paint 'wouldn't take'.

The grill surrounds only come in chrome.

Does anyone have any experience of doing this and or the problems of spraying over chrome?

How difficult can this be...?

If theres a lot of work involved in preparing it buy a second hand damaged surround. You will find with Insurance repaired cars even lightly damaged panels etc are often replaced. Have a chat with your local skoda stealers & find out where they get cars straightened, then go & see them with some cash in your pocket. If they wont deal try & find out who buys all their damaged parts, if they say they are scrapped they are probably telling porkies. Its quite a good cash sideline for many bodyshops.

Also try skospares cars dismantled by skospares.com for all your skospares

I've fired off an email to them to see if I can get the part cheaper. Problem is it will still be chrome hence there will still be a lot of work to prepare it. I got another quote to spray it for

Would Acid Etch Primer work?

I know that this is a slightly different approach, but take a look at this on VRStu's site:

Octavia-vRS.com - Colour Coded Grille

Not a fan of that I'm afraid. Also a bit pointless on a black one I would imagine :)

Checked with a bodyshop on Saturday, there are now paints that can be used over chrome

Interesting, who was that with, - was it a local or national outfit?

More importantly, do you know what the paints are called?

Any chance of getting the grill sand blasted to take chrome off? Just a thought as its possible with chrome alloys!
