Enhancing A5 performance

Featured Replies

Hi All, I'm from Singapore and i might be getting the A5. Unfortunately here, there isnt much engine option except for the 1.6 MPi with 6 speed auto for all the Octy. I love the built and space so i jump on the deal. The performance wasnt really "WOW" during the test drive session. My question to all the wise ones here, what are the things which i can do to boost the performance on that engine. Pls assist :)

:confused: What's an A5???:confused:

Current model Octavia. It's on the VAG group A5 chassis along with the current Golf/Leon etc.

The 1.6 FSI isn't an engine normally associated with tuning and I doubt if anyone on here has attempted it. I suppose the obvious thing would be to change the filter to a free flowing type such as K&N but aside from that I'm stuck for ideas.

Just for starters and to confirm, I presume you mean the current model Octavia (A5 chassis).

You say you get the 1.6 MPi engine in S'pore; this gives you hope for tuning. Here in UK all the 1.6 Octavia now have the FSi (Direct Injection) engine which is less easy to tune.

However, thinking of the 1.6 MPi steps you can take are, in no particular order;

1. Air induction kit and filter.

2. Big bore free flow exhaust, with 100cell race 'Cat'

3. Engine re-map, gives about 10% extra power/torque, more if you have it tuned for high octane fuel (can you get 102 octane easily, as in Japan?),

and lastly, this is a bit extreme,

4. Fit a Turbo !!!

the main problem I think you will have is getting parts etc, as I would reckon you have a fairly small market for Skoda in S'pore.

Good luck.
