oil change!

Featured Replies

waiting to change the engine oil in a couple of hundreds of miles, but i was worried about the amount of liters to be put, as i'm going to change it outside the stealers(they put a very bad type of oils and not following the shell helix recomendation of the manufacturer:mad: ,as well as charging me a very high amount)

i need to know the exact amount of oil to be put. my car is Octy MK2 1.6 MPI

thanx in advance

Are you planning to run fixed interval servicing then?

They will only put in an oil that is suitable to the car and its' servicing regime. A 5 litre can will cover it with a bit left over for topping up. If you are concerned about the dealer you have a few choices. Have the car serviced elsewhere, do it yourself (and probably invalidate the warranty as you are not a VAT registered garage) or supply your own oil when the dealer services it.

I for one do not subscribe to the misconception that the dealer is ripping people off at every conceivable oppurtunity, they are there to make a living and are not usually charitable or criminal organisations.

I got completely ripped by one dealer, but I can't recommend another highly enough.

Some dealers are ar$es about things, others are flexible, which means I will go back even if it is a tiny bit more.

sorry, didn't tell that i'm from Egypt...things here are much worse than that in England, when i said they are putting a very bad oil i meant it really:) . Also here in Egypt we have only one Dealer that is running a number of numerous service centers, we donot have the diversity u have in England,

Our dealer is also known by the worst cost reduction strategies ever, the cars come missing side airbags:eek: ,and some other important options, i'm assuming he made a deal with the oil company to supply him the oil by a very low cost, and selling it to us for more than the Shell, or any decent oil type..

Lummox..I'll be dealing with the dealer only in the case of moderate-major services like(pads, disks, belts, and other stuff that i should be more convenient to do at them.

other than that will be outside.

Fordfan..I understand from u that i'll need to get a 5 litre can and put around 4,50L into it? am i right?

thanks alot guys;)

That is so so true ive got two dealers where i am and could quite happily set fire to one of them (in a manner of words) for there complete lack of interest arrogance ignorance outright rudeness and stripping the thread on my sump plug just for good measure

whereas the other are brilliant very helpfull knowledgable and are always happy to go that little bit extra without being asked so im happy to travel that bit further and pay a bit more if it comes to it

Such a huge contrast in companies within a 20 mile radius of each other
