Nasty noise

Featured Replies

Just been inching forwards in a traffic jam on the M1.

Got off to go another way, opened the window and heard a horrendous noise from the under the bonnet.

No warning lights and going fine

Sounded like all the tappets had come loose.

I had to have new clutch assembly in about three weeks ago due to release bearing failing and vibration.

Stopped and called the AA who turned up about 35 mins later.

No noise at all so I assume it has something to do with the clutch assembly overheating in the traffic and it had now cooled off.

Car seems fine now and Ive driven 30 miles home with no problems.

Clutch still vibrates on take off so I reckon theres still a problem

Was going to France on Friday but look like well have to take the better halfs Fabia Vrs as I really dont want to risk the Octavia like this.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Sounds like a failing flywheel to me.

Thats what I thought Lummox.

Now had two clutches in and still vibrating although its a lot better than it was.

Apparently its not one of the LUK clutches that are known to be a problem so I came to the same conclusion

Has the flywheel been replaced?

I cant believe they would have put two clutches in it without replacing the flywheel. Both Sachs and LUK units have been known to fail.

I dont think so Lummox.

When I asked what had been done they said a new clutch assembly and release bearing.

Could be that as the car is a compant car on contract hire the hire company wouldnt stump up for the flywheel.

Looks like they might have to now though.

It would be covered by warranty if your vehicle is in the mileage/age limitation.

Changed loads of them, personally its what i would have changed first.

Nope, out of warranty.

62000 but I have been complaining about the problem virtually from new.

Should have stamped up and down a bit more.

Sounds like it.

Lummox

Seems they did change the whole lot after all.

No sign of any fault codes or anything so all a bit baffling.

Just have to see how it goes.
