Tomtom and RDS-TMC reciever

Featured Replies

Has any one else got one of these? I bought my Tomtom last week and it came with the RDS-TMC reciver free. I'm glad it did in some ways. I drove from germany, up to Dunkirk then dover to Whitby. While in europe the device worked great, diverting round traffic situations, but when I got to Dover, it recived a signal as far as Canterbury, got signal close to M25, but then nothing all most all the way up the A1.

On my return journey, I went to Newcastle, and it picked up there was heavy traffic in the Tyne tunnel, and took me via Tyne bridge, and did not hit any traffic at all. As soon as I got into europe got great signals almost all the way home.

Anyone else got any other experiences??

Personally if I lived in England I would not buy one at the current price, but I'm glad I got it free.

I had the Navman equivalent and the signal was poor at best.

It's not unusual to hear that something is done better on the continent than here.

The Skoda MFD2 TMC receives the singal pretty well via the roof mounted aerial but the information is limited to motorways.

TomTom have recognised their is a problem with the RDS-TMC reciever, there's a bit of info here:

yourNAV.com | News: TomTom to replace RDS/TMC receivers

I frequently drive between Nottingham & Leeds up the M1- the only time my TMC seems to work now is when I am approaching the road works just before Sheffield!
