Active Head Restraints/Fitting Monitors

Featured Replies

I'm looking at getting monitors fitted to my Octy's front Head restraints to keep the kids quite on days out etc in the summer.

One question is though, the L&K has Active Head restraints, what do they do and will it effect me doing this?

Cheers

Hmm might not be a good idea as the headrest position is altered during an accident. Might not want a monitor rammed into the back of the head.

Not sure what they do in the event of an accident, but I doubt they swivel over through 180 degrees. But is there wiring or pyrotechnics involved making it iffy to cut into the headrests?

However, can't you get screens that fit on with straps? Or was Lummox suggesting those are the ones which might hit you in the head if/when they become detached?

The headrest mounts into a frame in the seat back. In the event of the seat moving violently forards the headrest moves down and forward a bit iirc.

I was more concered about any screen fitted coming out in such an event.

The head restraints move quite violently during an impact, it's the inertial force of your body on the seat back that activates the mechanism and (as Lummox says) pushes the head restraint forwards to meet the back of your head. I know exactly what they are like as my car got punted up the backside quite badly a few years back and it felt like being slapped hard on the back of my head. The system used in the Octavia is entirely mechanical and auto resets.

Personally I wouldn't like anything attached to it when it does it's thing, It might be one reason why Skoda offer the ceiling mounted DVD player for the sprogs in the back.

Is there any indication on the head restraint that they are active> Cos mine look totally standard but being an L&K should be active!
