Hello All,

Could anyone tell me what are the quietest tyres i could use for the vrs, they original one are continental and are very very loud or at least I think its the tyres or reduced sound proofing.

Could I raise the profile of the tyres from 45 to 55, would this reduce the noise level by much or is it just a lost cause.

As I have had 2 superbs in the past I may be oversensitive to the noise the car makes but it does seem excessive.

If i cant reduce the noise level considerably I will part company with it and get something quieter. Its a pity because the car drives and handles very well and the overall finish is excellent .

You could raise the profile to 225/55 but not sure how this would affect the handling as there would be a bit more flex in the tyre when cornering.

As for quieter tyres. Mine are Michelin Pilot Primacy which are fairly quiet compared to the Continentals i used to have on my Omega. If you want the quietest with best grip then ive heard the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 are very good and very quiet.

Some people are also opting for the Falken tyres (do a search on tyres and youll find enough info there)

One other thing to check is make sure they are not over inflated. Mine came with the tyres all inflated to 2.4bar instead of 2.1

Falken 452 are a good tyre but I have no idea on noise.

If they do them in your size the Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 are very quiet and grip well, but I think you are in Pilot Sport Sizes there.

Speak to Makefish as he had PS fitted for an opinion on noise.

Oh and avoid the bridgestones they are really noisy IMHO :(

I had Michelin Pilot Primacys on my Fabia with 16" wheels and changed them for Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s to good effect; they were quieter, gave a more compliant ride AND gripped better (dry and wet).

In buying my Octavia vRS and finding the Contis on my dealer's demo completely excessively noisy, I got dealer fit 18" wheels and was able to have Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s fitted. Available in the required 225/45 17 OR 225/40 18 (as fitted). They are certainly MUCH quieter than the Contis.

Finally; DO NOT mess with going up to 50 or 55 aspect ratio; unless you take a narrower tyre to say 205/55 17; but in any event you'll ruin the handling and after all, why did you buy the vRS in the first place? Presumably for its sportiness.

Just done nearly 4k on Toyo Proxes T1-R's and they seem to be a quieter tyre. I got about 16k out of the Conti's, but noticed that they seemed to "go off" towards they end of their life, becomming even more noisey than they were to start with! I would agree that the Michelin's are a good option as my brother in law has them on his A3 Sports Quattro, and they seem very quiet, can't comment on the grip though as it would be unfair to compair his car against ours!! In the end I chose the Toyo as I got a better deal on the price.

As posted elsewhere I have replaced my front 2 with Goodyear F1s and I'm very happy (quiet, excellent grip on exiting damp roundabouts)...however doing a bit of reading on t'internet I have read that they are as good as useless in snow/ice...a long way from our minds now but perhaps worth bearing in mind.

Changing the tyre size looks as if it could be a bad move and indeed the handling would be very important to me and would not like to ruin that. Thanks.

If your current tyres are 205/50/R17 I believe you can move up to 225/45/R17 to get the same rolling radius and this should actually improve grip etc.

Do confirm this with somebody though as I am pulling these figures from the back of my head and my memory isn't working today.
