Sports or convertible car rental Germany

Featured Replies

Hi everyone - wife and me going to Nurburg in May - looking to rent a decent car at or close to Hahn airport. Wanting a trustworthy rental company that will deliver a BMW 5 or Audi TT or Mustang convertible, and NOT an Opel Omega or Vectra when you turn up!!!

Anyone got any suggestions?

BTW - we're there for the F1 GP not to go bombing around the You Know What!

cheers Chris

ps see you at Brunters on April 24th

And the difference between the Omega and the 5 series being...?

Ah, the badge... :D

have always found Hertz deliver what i order... remember is germany not US...:D

I had a 911 from Hertz in Geneva, just what I ordered. :D

Europcar will do you a CLK convertible or TT

Think Avis used to do Boxsters and SL mercs

Jon, Have you gone all diesel on me???

Re rentals - are we saying that Frankfurt Hahn could also be a place where Hertz, Avis etc can drop and pick up the right car? I'll get on the case - all the sites I've checked cannot guarantee anything except the price!

Yes Frankfurt Hahn, which is like saying London/Tenby!!!

Yes they will do drop offs if the car you want isn't available at the site you're going to. Needs to be booked in advance though, mind you you normally have to as they are special order cars.

Thanks Jon and others - booked a TT 150ps via Europcar -

Do not trust them, they will give you what they have no matter what you have booked. All these companies go on 'classes' of car not model. I regularly use Avis with work, I have yet to get the actual car model requested. The closes was a Saab when a Merc had been ordered!

what can you do? I don't speak German so I book using the UK branch. They tell me that in the Y class I have booked there are only Audi TT and Nissan 350Z - i.e. roadster with air con - what else can I do - invade Poland............

Studioman - If you have any contact details I may be able to help by getting by Mum on the case... (she's German born and obviously bi-lingual and may be able to sort something out over the email)

Thanks Jason, I've already booked with Europcar via their UK offices - and they say it'll be a TT or a 350Z as that's the only car in 'Y' booking class - seems fairly straight forward?/ Tell you what - I'll get the German offices tel number and if you want to 'firm it up' at the Hahn end I'll pay for the call how's that??

cheers Chris

You might find the German office will speak English - I'd imagine they do deal with a lot of travellers, so would hire people who are fluent in several languages...

Could do - but I don't live with my Mother and I don;t fancy just ringing her up and asking her to speak to some of her fellow countrymen. :D

If you PM me a telephone number in Germany in the next few minutes and any other details, I'm visiting her this evening (assuming they're open) we may be able to ring her up.

Alternativey I can give you her phone number so she can suggest suitable Deutsch expletives when you're given a Ford Ka instead.
