My Dad's Octy ( 1.9TDi 90bhp ), 2003, 51K on the clock has developed an intermittent 1100rpm tickover ( not all the time just now and then ) and has now put on the ECU light

I have a VAG-COM but will probably not be able to get over to check before a couple of weeks what fault code it has or to try to solve it

Anyone know what the likely cause is and whether it will be fine for the 2 weeks until I see him next ?

I'd hate for it to go kaputt if I can avoid it.

If someone tells me it will be OK I can wait, otherwise I shall make a special trip to check it for him.

vacuum leak??

Besides a vacuum leak which is obviously not going to do any engine damage does anyone else know what could cause this that would mean I have to go and find out the fault code and fix it ?

Otherwise I shall tell my dad to ignore it and just drive as normal til I see him next

No help I know, but mine does the same thing. Often on a warm start, but not always. Goes away after a few minutes of driving. Fingers crossed my light doesn't come on :(

ive got the same problem and i have a split pipe causing it to run lean and idle high, will investigate where it is exactly over the weekend when i have time, originally the codes pointed to a fault maf, but changing it didnt fix it, then i heard the air leak!!!
