Changing Radio In Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hello

I am thinking of changing my current had unit in my Fabia.

I already have alpine CDA 7894RB, which has 4X60 watt output, yes 60 watt

How easy it to remove the current head unit and install a new one?

Are there any guides on how to do this?

I am going to find when I have installed the new head unit, that current speakers can not cope with the increased power?

Any help on this matter would be great

John

PS

Has any one got photos of a sliver head unit installed in a Fabia?

Does it look odd being in a car with a completely black dash?

Have you searched for this? I'm pretty sure it's been described before.

Removing the oem head unit is easy - you need to put in two strips where the slit holes are on either side.

You may want to buy a fascia adaptor as the Symphony head unit has the display which is above the DIN size so the trim covers that up nicely.

Speakers aren't the best, but they're not bad. Again, do a search for suggestions. I've written up a guide on changing the front speakers.

You'll certainly need a facia adaptor as Xavier says, these are best bought from a Skoda dealer and cost around

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm majorly stuck! I've had two strips of old golden syrup tin in the tiny slots on my Fabia's OEM head unit, and felt something behind them click... but still the head unit won't come out... am I doing something wrong? or is there a special place 2 try and pry the damned unit out?

"Wiggle it, just a little bit. Why don't you wiggle it just a little bit".

Seriously though, a good bit of wiggling with a mild amount of pulling towards yourself should dislodge it if you've heard it click on both sides.

I found removing a blank switch and helping it from behind helps - they are in bloody tight. :)

Are the blank switches easily put back on? I'm so afraid of breaking anything in my new car!!
