Where to dynamat the front doors octavia

Featured Replies

As the title really

Do i do the whole inner skin behind the door card or the back of the outer door skin as best I can. Personally i would have thought the outer skin. Ideally both but i ain't made of money

I wish i was

I need ideas please help

Years ago i used to just layer everything but i didn't have a wife and family then, it was noithing to blow

The outer skin would be your best bet, then cover over the plastic membrane with it if possible.

Ta very much dude

As it was explained to me a while ago.....

1) A piece on the inner skin surrounding the hole that the speaker is mounted to. Say 10" or 12" sq.

2) At the very least, put the hole shaped cutout from that on the outer skin, directly behind the woofer. IMO as much as you can in this location, again though, probably a good 10" sq if you can.

3) Seal as best you can the inner skin. Cover as many voids as possible to reduce the likelihood of random sound making it's way out of the door from the back of the woofer.

If I had to do "3)" again, I'd consider light sheeting or plating behind any larger voids. If you don't do that, keep as much of the backing paper on the dynamat as possible. Watch out for any rods/actuator runs that might get stuck.

Leave the backing paper on the areas of dynamat that cover the larger holes. No telling what it might stick to otherwise. Obviously, remove the backing from the bits where there's door metal to stick it to.

On my Impreza, there are door rods for the latch and central locking that would otherwise get gummed up. Alternatively, put gaffer or duck tape over those areas to avoid sticking.
