I tried a Blaupunkt head unit, didn't like it and put the OEM back in. But as you all know, it really is a terrible sound - not too bad for dance music, but anything indie sounds really crashy and tinny. So, I might be looking to change the head unit again, but only for one that looks as near to OEM as possible.

Thanks,

Andrew.

Should do, the head unit is a standard size.

I have a Becker DTM fitted in my Octy2 -- yeah I know, different radio model, different car model, but close enough :) -- and it fits OK. Well, Ok is "just OK" because there isn't that much room in a mk2 for all the cabling behind the head unit, and I've also tucked a Dension ice link back there too, so it sits a few mm proud of the dash, but it's close enough for me.

Looks good to me too. I like the simplicity of the Beckers, so much more subtle than the offerings at Halfords at the moment.

FYI, mine comes with the so-called "white" illumination, which more or less matches the black on white of the temperature read outs for the air-con and doesn't look too out of place against the rest of the dash's green lighting. IMHO the green Becker illumination might be a bit too green, but it's just my opinion.

This is my second Becker unit and I'm happy with them. As you say, pretty simple to operate and the buttons are human sized so you can actually use them while driving without having to change glasses or look through the user manual ;)
