4 Wheel Tracking

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a clear advantage of getting this done at a Skoda dealer? Here are the prices I was given:

Skoda -

Probably no different at all if it is a full four wheel alignment check.

And laser tracking is as far as I know the most accurate way to carry out a wheel alignment. Sun, Beisbarth, Pro Align (three of the best known brands) all use laser alignment.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the lazer only adjust the front wheels against the rear wheels?

And seeing as far as i know the vRS has adjustable rear wheels and also camber setings, a lazer system would be unsuitable?

The Fabia doesnt have adjustable rear wheels.

And the meaning of four wheel alignment is the alignment of all four wheels is checked, camber, toe etc in relation to each other and to the car.

A laser set up is fine for this, a camera mounted on each wheel which is calibrated points a laser at a camera on another wheel so it can measure the alignment.

Local reputable garage -

I paid sixty-some quid to get Awesome to do 4-wheel alignment on mine, compared to twenty-some quid for the local tyreiron wielders to do SWMBO's tracking (front wheels only - different priorities, you see! ;):D )

SWMBO's tracking was waaaaaaay out, and they did a good enough job. Plus there was a 28-day guarantee, so I took it back after 27 because it had been so far out, I wanted to make sure it hadn't settled or anything. It hadn't, BTW!

The 4-wheel alignment on my own car was virtually spot-on (not bad after 50k), so I can't really say whether or not it made any more difference than the front wheel tracking...

Try Powerstation in Chelenham, Ive tried loads of places but keep going back, they are the best IMO, I drive there from Winchester, I think its aboy

Best......... I think i do quite a good job with "Pro-Aligns" gear, and yes it is laser;)

Just ask Bengie, ex fiesta, Vrs si to name but a few:rolleyes:

By the way we dont do tracking we do alignment.....

Marky, why do you need the alignment done?

Is it pulling left?

That's where I had mine done.
Ah, it may have been

Pulling left, steering wheel off centre and slight excessive wear on outside of n/s/f tyre.

I've owned the car since new and to be honest it's always been the same, so i wouldn't be surprised if it's a 'feature' of the car, but i thought it would be worth checking out.

Thanks for all of your replies by the way.

Swap your wheels round and get your tracking done.

TBH it's probably the tyres.

My local dealer uses a local garage as do all the main dealers around that area.

  • 3 weeks later...

Guys and Gals i am looking for some guidance. I have read through this thread and i am still a little confused.

For the past few weeks i have been having issues with my car pulling heavily to the left and i have noticed that the steering wheel doesnt sit dead centre. It has been back to Skoda a few times and they have told me to get new tyres on all corners. There was uneven wear on the fronts (they claim due to incorrect inflation - altho it was regulalrly checked) and very little left on the backs. So

If the steering wheel doesn't sit dead centre then it wasn't locked in place when they performed the tracking/alignment. Complain to your dealer that the wheel isn't straight and ask them if they can adjust it and redo the alignment ;) Also worth asking for a printout (which will show the before and after readings).

Btw, Powerstation in Cheltenham are only 50 miles from you and should be able to sort you out for about 70-80 quid (best ring ahead though as I'm not sure if they're under water at the moment!)....

Chris

There is a place in cardiff that does 4 wheel alignment

Powerstation details PowerStation

You will need to book an apointment, can take up to an hour as they do it properly. Explain your problem to Rich & he will probably be able to give you a before printout as evidence if its wrong
