How to remove a Fabia door card

Featured Replies

Any info will be great. Planning on starting my ICE install soon. (when i can be arsed). So need to take the door card off to check how i'm going to mount them, size, etc.

Also is it true you need to drill out the standard speakers. Whats the max depth of the midrange you can use?

Cheers

Haha!

Been there, done that :)

Check out the photos in my gallery.

Yes for drilling: oem speakers are on plastic baffles fixed to the door with rivets.

I think I've posted how to do it. Let me search and I'll get back to you ;)

Sorry mate, you only got pics of your sat nav in your gallery.

Indeed.

Had a quick search and can't find anything. I was planning on writing a complete "how to" guide on removing door cards on fabia vrses. Must not have moved on any further than my "to do" list ;)

Pic of door card removed here.

I will write a how to as it's a little tricky and very easy to damage trim if you don't do it quite right. Will have to wait a couple of days though... :o

Ok mate. Thanks for the info.

Just a quick question. Are they 17cm speakers.

Uhm, no. I think they're 13cm.

But I'll soon be mounting some sweet 17's

Thought they would be 13's.

The speakers in the front doors of the fabia are 6", thats 16.5/17cm. Thats what we have in ours anyway. The only problem is the mounting depth and the window brace. Check window movement before securing speaker and re applying the door card.

To put this to a rest, I was earlier with Andy_CCR to see about replacing my front speakers. The speaker is 6.5" and apparently the same size as the octavia fronts. This means that the Audioleads VW Golf speaker spacer kit should fit, which I will hopefully find out tomorrow. I have taken photos of the whole lot so far, bu have yet to put them up.

UPDATE: The Autoleads part number is SAK 3103 and is for a VW Golf/Passat. These fit the space perfect and come with the adapter pugs.

The only problem is, due to the limited space, most component speakers will still not fit because of the size of the magnets. If you can find some that do I will be very interested as I don't think it is worth fitting co-axial speakers, when the ones in the car are ok as they are.

Jeff what would you say the MAX mounting depth is. About?

Kenwood Dual mag component sets, very small magent and good sound. Have used them before to very good effect.

Tried it. The magnet is still too deep.

the max mounting depth is about 100mm, although it would be best to measure the std speaker (I did not) and there is about another 5 - 10 mm to play with behind it (I.e not much). The way I did it was using the collar, measuring up the speakers to see how much deeper the speaker is, the depth of the co-axial speakers I tried were roughly the same depth of the collar, with components about 20-30mm deeper due to the larger magnets.

dual mag components Mounting depth: 60 mm

DLS PS6 Installation depth : 53 mm

Check out caraudiodirect.co.uk

I was only approximating the depth, all I can say for sure is that the Dual mags, and any other componet I tried were about and inch too deep for the door. Pm andy_ccr to comfirm as it was at his shop that all of this was tried.

I wonder if i should have ago at making some kickwell builds instead. This could get messy.

Well, the std speaker rubs against the door card as it is so you could try but it may get expensive.

Just to show how tight it is in there, here are the photo's I took while sorting it out.

as you can see, not much space behind the speaker.
