HI can someone please help me, i need a cambelt change and my car has been remapped, does this make any difference when having the cambelt changed

Also which parts should i get replaced while having the cambelt changed i have seen i need the waterpump but are there any other parts i need done.

Finally i am in bristol is there anyone who can tell me where the best place to get it done is.

Are you planning on doing this yourself then? if so have you got the Haynes manual.

If you plan on getting your garage to do it, just ask them if they have a problem with servicing remapped cars. (my seller told me that in theory they shy away, but the servicing is EXACTLY the same; its only a bit of software that changed and they will be able to read out the fact that it has been changed. that's about it)

what is it you are worried about mate?

Not doing it myself, just worried about them messing with the remap and maybe putting back to standard

I can't imagine they'd have any reason to go anywhere near the ECU except to read the fault codes if they're changing the belt as part of an inspection service. They might suck their teeth a bit if they discover you have a remap, but they'd have no reason / justification for wiping it AIUI...

The dealer's diagnostic tool cant delete the remap. Its more than just an on/off switch.

You tell them there is a remap

you ask them if they have a problem with servicing a remapped car

you tell them not to overwrite it

you make them understand that if they have any problem with the above, you take your car and your pennies elsewhere.

Although a remap messes with the software and they might suck their teeth, it remains your property
