Fabia sub and false floor installation with pics

Featured Replies

I'm going to stick with the stock headunit as I like it's bland blend in with the dashboard 'why bother nicking me' styling. However, I think I'd need an AMP to drive the Rainbows.

I was thinking along the same lines Des. BUT when I put my old Kenwood player in it looked the biz, and sounded better, so now I'm looking at getting a new headunit to replace my old Kenwood. Seen a nice Sony one, CDX-F7500, or something like that.

TBH, the latest Sony HU are not that good - more bling than bang if you see what I mean. And I work for Sony, so I'm not giving a biassed opinion!

Having said that, I haven't played around with the CDXF7500, but I'd go for a 7700 - it has 4V preouts instead of 2V preouts. The latter would not be as good and give you less dynamic range / possibilities when connecting to a seperate amp.

They do look nice though...

You can get preouts from the Stock Symphony HU - you need to get one of those blue and yellow connectors that plug in next to the ISO connectors which gives you line level outputs / inputs amongst other things.

I know what you mean by keeping the HU in terms of safety - definately doesn't have the "nick me now" label on it. But a decent third party HU will have a detachable face plate and then you can't tell whether it's a

I quite like my 7500 HU :) Wasn't bothered about the difference in the preouts - just wanted something with a separate sub-out. Did turn off the majority of the graphics (especially the "movies") as they were a bit distracting!

Running standard fabia speakers, apart from the sony sub in the boot :)

Cool. Thanks for the info guys. TF are you some sort of ICE god? You keep rescuing me whenever Im in need of info. I will have a look at the 7700.

PS: its nice n sunny here. Anychance of the pics. Grovel grovel

No worries, I should do it for the archive books, I guess

Got my Sony CDX-F7700. Its awesome. a vast improvement over my old kenwood unit.

Next question is......where have you guys gone through the bulkhead from the engine bay with your power cables?

I thought you were gonna ask that one :)

Easiest was is just below the glovebox - there's a cable coming through from the engine compartment. You'll have to take out the glovebox. I think I posted a pic on the location - will search and mention if I find it.

Good luck though - I had to resort to a drill to enlarge (for 4 gauge wire) :(

Thankyou once again Xavier. Your my hero, LOL :D

yipee, got my sub in. good to hav some decent sounds again. will post some pics wen i get my digi cam back of my ex-missus.

I'm planning on making my false floor tomorrow... and stumbled across this brilliant guide. Well don Xav!

But where have all the pictures gone :(

Also - what carpet is that/where is it from. Looks like a brilliant match.

I will be getting Genesis Series 3 5 channel, Rainbow SLC 265 Kicks, and Genesis Audiophile 12" sub. All stealthily installed with liberal amounts of sound proofing, sound deadening and quality cable. Just need to get my boot floor sorted first though.

Please fix the pics. please!

Also cheers Col! Just notice my names changed - thanks mate.

OK, looking at really sorting my stereo out now, and it would be really helpful if the pics to this one could be fixed... Pretty please!

I'm aiming for a nice quality install like yours xav, and think I can make it work.

I do however want to be able to get at the spare wheel without taking to a screwdriver - I reckon the lower false floor could have a large cutout (if made from 15mm MDF and screwed to the bracing, and the top floor be hinged to that? :rubchin:

Ah well, will don the jigsaw at the weekend and get started!

Where have the pics gone?
Into cyber space, can send you pics of how mine was constructed if it helps.

Being as the finished product looks exactly the same as Xav's lol

Let me know.
