Blown passenger side Tweeter

Featured Replies

I knew that something didn't quite sound right and now I know for sure.

The passenger side tweeter produces no sound at all so at sometime in the very near future I will have to strip the door down. :(

I had the speakers replaced very early in my Octy 2 ownership so I am not looking forward to it really. The fronts are DLS R6A's and the rears are DLS coaxials and they did sound good.

I guess I am just after some advice.

I have seen the guide produced by Humsk about stripping the door and I have done it on other cars (Mondeos I'm afraid).

I can foresee the liberal application of some Dynamat (or similar) when I put the stuff back

So I guess I was wondering how easy it was?

Doesn't look too bad Ian -

Unclip recessed handle, pulling upwards.

– Separate plug connection.

– Remove screws (4 Nm).

– Unclip cover for treble speaker and separate plug connection.

– Remove screw (1 Nm).

– Remove screws at bottom of panel.

– Unclip the door trim panel from the door and remove upwards.

– Unhook the control cable of the door handle and separate the plug connections

Thanks Stu.

I had this marked from ages ago and I guess it just expands on what you are saying and includes pics.

To start with I will remove the door card before I go any further just to see if a wire has come loose.

If I need to I will buy a new set of components via ebay, some Dynamat and do both sides.

Well put my brave trousers on tonight and went for it. I had been quoted

There was me thinking someone had strapped a BOMB to your door:D .

I decided to take a peek inside the drivers side. Incidently it is a doddle to remove the door card, it is the same as the passenger side but you need to prise the top off the door handle.

Anyway I found several broken clips, the crossover left flapping around loose and a grille from the speaker front just left loose. All sorted now plus all broken clips in the passenger side replaced.

Hopefully my car will be much quieter from now on. Well no rattles at least. :D

Are those cross overs from the factory or after market.

If they are putting speakers with active cross overs in these days I'm pretty impressed :)

They are after market crossover, supplied with the speakers.

As far as I know they are passive.
