Skoda Fabia drivers door lock

My wife has a 2002 Fabia Classic. The drivers door can be unlocked from the outside, but not locked. It may have been caused when her husband (you aint seen me, right?) held up the handle, pressed the locking button and tried to close the door. I have managed to remove the inner skin? of the door but I badly need a tip from someone who knows to advise me on my next move. I have looked and found advice on removing the lock barrel but do not want to do this unless necessary.

From what I have seen, it might be that the cable has jumped its housing/restraint and I'll be very grateful for any advice that anyone can help me with.
