tweeters

Featured Replies

hi people. just wondering may seem bit of stupid question to some but what do the tweeters actually do and are the actually worth having. and if so are they worth upgrading in a fabia if you can, with the speakers.

thanks

Tweeters reproduce high to ultra high frequencies. These are necessary to give the higher notes such as symbols. If you ever listen to a tweeter on it's own it sounds just like static but the do complete the sound form. The problem with most tweeters in cars is that they are mounted high on the door which is a bad position as the sound wave travels much quicker than from the mid so the sound can seem unbalanced, as it reaches your ear quicker.

If you ditch them then the sound from the mids will be dull and not very clear.

If you are wishing to upgrade then I suggest then getting a full component set these will be matched and usually come with a decent crossover if you are going to coaxial set then make sure that the standard tweeters are disconnected as otherwise the sound may seem a little bright. To upgrade on their own, there is no point as again the sound will be unbalanced as they are usually matched to a Mid bass speaker.

Whether upgrading or not I suggest that you get some sound deadening in the doors this does a world of difference (standard speakers = better sound, upgrade speakers = very good sound, decent speakers = f'ing excellent) it is a cheap upgrade that makes a world of difference. I recommend Brown Bread or Dynamat.

The tweeters supply the very high frequencies without them it would sound dull and lifeless. If you are going to upgrade the driver you might aswell do the tweeters.Buy a good set of components.

thanks. i had a basic idea of what they did but it seems to come up a lot on here of them beeing to high and whatever so i wanted to check up on them. is there any recomended company to go to that can fit a better sound system speaker, tweeter etc

Have a look on Here in the forum as the guys on there really know there stuff with car audio. just specify a budget and you car and they will be able to recommend you a setup that is suitable and they will be able to guide you from there experience.

as for brands look at Rainbow, Alpine, Pioneer, Infinity, JBL as they all are good solid brands.

oh yea theyre nice just found a pio that i likes is all well 3 actually lol but itll get weeded down. i would go for a sin- din if the screens were any good but for dvd and such theyre to small for likeing really. the motor-screen sin - din are ok but can be ennoying at times.

if you can get a W202ri theyre are awesome units. only thing to remember is that the facia isn't removable, and iirc there maybe a separate control box so youll have to hide it. but im not 100% but i know the D310 does.

tweeters are mounted higher up because of the directional nature of higher frequency sounds
