fault help and advice

Featured Replies

Hello guys

I posted these details in another section by mistake I think. I'm a newbie to d.i.y and I have the engine management light on my skoda 4 x 4 1.8T. I took it in to skoda and they said it was a leak in the vacuum hose, but at the time they were too busy to locate the problem. They reset the fault and let me be on my way.

I've since got vagcom and have taken these readings:-

The 17608 and 17705 sound like a faulty diverter valve (DV). I had the same go on mine, and I understand it's quite common for them to fail. I got a new one from VAG Parts for about

will thanks ever so much. this sounds spot on - I'm getting the whistling + the spluttering changing gear. Did this improve on performance when you got it sorted?

Thanks again

is the DV the N75 valve?

nope the N75 it just next to it afaik its the one with a cable going into it

No, the N75 controls the wastegate. I got very confused when I first started looking into this but when I eventually got it clear in my head, I posted my conclusions here.

You can find a picture of the DV by going to vagparts, "entering the shop" and searching for "dv 710n" (without the quotes). The second and third items (both the same part under different labels) are the ones you want. There is also a third connection that you can't see in the picture - it's on the top/left surface - where a thin vacuum line is connected. This vacuum line is pointing upwards when the DV is installed in the car.

I haven't noticed an improvement in performance, but the fluttering has stopped and I think this must be good news for the turbo.

i stand corrected. good read there.

Hi again

I ordered and replaced the dump valve and everything was ok for 3 days. I then filled up with super and the engine management light has come on again. could I have busted the diaphragm on the new valve just by going super? There's a cheap aluminium valve on ebay I might consider as this will eliminate any pressure issues. I bought this car 12 months ago, so don't know if it has been remapped or not. i'd have expected a replacement dump valve though. how can I check this with VAG?

I'm not really qualified to say, but I can't imagine the diaphragm could have been broken by using a different type of fuel, remapped or not. You could always test the new valve by sucking on the vacuum line, as I described in my first reply. My money's on a different fault - see what fault code VAG COM reports.

vacuum leak from the breather hose to the rifgt of the dipstick (as you look at it), carefully move it with the engine running and listen for the hiss.
