New VW concept car 'up!' may be badged as a Skoda

Featured Replies

i think they should make a VAG badge and just let all the dealers sell the same car!

lol

I think there’s potential for this car, though VW would have to give a lot of though to how there going to manage there small car range as it would now include this the Fox and the Polo. I'm not sure these space for all three.

The Fox didn't really give VW a replacement for the lupo (city car) as its too big, this would be the lupo's replacement (obviously).

The best way to stop the Fox becoming redutant would be to market it as a budget and smaller alternative to the Polo. Let's face it superminis (including the polo) were fox sized not too long ago. I think this is maybe what VW have tried to do with it. I do think the engine options need a change though.

keep the 12 6v 55ps

add the 'new' 1.2 12v 70ps

either drop the 1.4 75ps or replace it with the 1.4 80ps

(if dropped the 1.2 12v 70ps would be its closes replacement)

add the 1.4 TDi 70ps or 80ps as a Diesel option

I'm not shore on the rear-wheel drive on the new car either.

(sorry I ramble too much)

Tim

Why bother making it rear wheel drive? That car will be aimed at young people, first time car buyers eg, people inexperienced with RWD.

I can see many getting written off due to inexperienced drivers getting the back ends out in the wet.

I disagree, small engined skinny tyred RWD cars are the perfect way to learn RWD handling at lower (and therefore safer) speeds.

the wheelbase looks to short to be RWD really, it'll just spin out and they'll all get recalled.

Again, I disagree, Short wheelbase is better for RWD handling IMO, more go kart like and easier to control when oversteer happens, (intentional or not) unlike big heavy long wheelbase cars where there is a lot of momentum to keep the pendulum effect taking you past the point of no return!

Mr Healey's explanation above seems to be logical.

My neighbour had a Smart roadster until recently,

that was RWD / Rear Engine.

He said it's the most fun to drive car he's ever owned.

He's only got rid, after repeated vandalism,

seemingly people liked running / jumping on it.

I prefer the Joyster , although this lil thing is not without its charm , but , like most VWs it will end up being too much money for the segment it is trying to compete in , much like Mitsubishis new 'i'.

Some bits stolen from the citroen parts bin?

They weren't in the bin - they had just dropped of in the road

Isnt that what ****roen call the bin ;)

I shouldn't joke - Citroen always managed to fix my AX in a couple of visits and Skoda took 12

Why did you take your AX to Skoda

:P

But lets be honest, if you ever owned a meccano set you could probably fix an AX;)
