Octy vRS front end droning noise

Featured Replies

I am hoping that someone will be able to help me with this. recently i have noticed a droning noise which sounds like its coming from the engine bay on my vRS.

The best way to describe this noise is by comparing it to the drone an over worked little electric motor makes.

it happens when the car is cruising or slowing down, but it disappears when accelerating. my worry is that it's the bearing in the turbo or a lack of lubrication to the turbo and its slowly seazing up.

any help or advice would be much appreciated as i've only had the car 4 months and it's mint to drive.

cheers

Hi Bud,

My one drones as well and especially bad when turning corners slowly (around 15-20mph). I thought it could be a wheel bearing!

My friend is a top Audi Technician and advised that it was just the tyres.

Mine are Wanli's and he assures me that a higher quality tyre will not do this.

The symptoms are the same as yours and when these tyre's are shot I'm going for some Falken 451's ( I also have a Golf GTI 21st Anniversary and these were the dogs in all conditions but crap life span (5-7K) but have been told that the VRS should get between 10-20K MIN!).

Hope this helps!

What is the mileage/year of the car?

Wheel bearing noises generally occur at about 30mph+ and can change when the steering wheel is turned from one direction to the other.I don't know about your engine noise though.Sorry

cheers for the help guys. as for the tyres, mine is running Goodyear Eagles and are in good condition.

the noise is there reguardless of what direction the wheels are pointed which lead me away from the wheel bearing idea. but i'll get the car in the air this weekend and have a look. as for mileage, it's done 123k at the mo. but with it being an ex-police mota i understand that it has been well maintained

oh well, on with the hunt!! lol
