Radio aerial in OS rear window? L&K estate.

Featured Replies

I've just noticed that there are markings, similar to those in a heated rear screen, in the the offside rear window on our L&K Estate. Can't find out what they are for - possibly to do with the radio or a phone aerial? Just curious.

Me too very curious, perhaps it,s for the L/H drive cars to enable vision (heated) but not alot for us in the

UK.

Don't think it can be for heating as there's only one continuous line in a sort of sideways/oblique U shape with a smaller line attached.

Aren't these linked to the alarm? Smash glass breaks the contacts and alarm goes off. possibly too far back on the estate for the interior monitoring to pick it up otherwise?

My 2006 L&K Estate doesn't have this. Does yours have a radio aerial on the roof ? (Mine does).

Usual aerial on roof and the markings are not on the nearside window, only the offside.

Ditto with the side window marks, why would they be only be on one side if for the alarm?

My 2006 Elegance didn't have this so it's an MY08 addition.

I have the standard bee sting on the roof too.

My money is on an aerial of some kind.

The L&K estate with Audience radio has two aerials.

This is the 'diversity' tuner system.

Basically two tuners with two seperate aerials.

If you look on the back of the radio there are two 'fakra' connectors.

One has a thick coaxial cable and goes to the amplified aerial on the roof.

The other 'thinner' one goes to the drivers side rear window.

The above is supposed to give a clear fm reception.

AFAIK is works for me.;)

I ripped my Audience unit out after a day to fit my MFD2 so it's wasted on me

I remember the second FAKRA plug, doesn't do much for the sat nav unit though.

Good explanation though Phil, cheeers

Thanks for that - very interesting. I remember a Honda Accord Tourer I had; it's aerials were completely in the side windows with no external aerial. IIRC it worked very well. I might try unscrewing the roof aerial and see (or rather hear!) what effect it has.

....off topic...would you be selling the audience system in the near future?

I'm afraid not, it's part of a company car and the lease firm would be none too pleased if the car was returned with an Alba tape player in the dash.

I have to be very selective with car mods as a consequence.

Sorry mate :thumbdwn:

So much for my idea of removing the aerial mast! It unscrews so far and then just keeps on rotating. Obviously to prevent theft as the older ones could be just unscrewed completely. Very clever because it can also be tightened in a horizontal position, presumably when using a roof rack.

I fold mine down when going through an IMO car wash.

:( No way am I going to attack the headlining on a new car! I would be grateful, however, if someone could tell me how to unscrew the aerial mast?
