Chipped Roomster

Featured Replies

I test drove one this week and was very impressed. i'm 32 2 kids and wife and i think it would be a perfect replacement for my wifes Fabia. i could then put my passat into semi retirement. I test drove the 1.9 tdi and thought it was quite good performance wise but couldn't help thinking that a chip would make it a cracking car. My passat has this engine and i chipped it and the difference was remarkable. The Only thing that puts me off is the "cute" looks however the scout seems to sort that problem out.

In conclusion I think a chipped 1.9 tdi scout could be a the perfect car for the family runs and the drives that all dads love to have now and again;)

Just my opinion of course

Getting one mapped isn't too hard, you will be limited by vendor though as it's got an EDC 16 ECU which is a bit more difficult to map. You would also do well to get it done proper custom. I found the standard range ok, but a bit wheezy higher up the rev range, there is no reason why it can be mapped to give you more at the top.

I have been considering a Dragon box but this could couase issues with the dpf as it will make it smoke more.

I found that mine does not have a DPF, you can verify this by checking the engine/chassis code sticker or have a look in your service book.

To my knowledge they have not sold any Roomster diesels in the UK with a DPF.

they do a bluefin box for the new 1.9tdi fabia so i would think you could plug that in to the roomster and get it chipped from there?

i would love to do it as the blue fin plugs in somewhere in the car aparently so i could easily take it out while im at work ;)

Sorry Gents being thick, i have seen people writing about DPF's before. What are they? and what do they do?

DPF diesal particulate filter, does what it says on the tin :)

sorry didn't make my question very clear, how does this affect Chipping?

Presume the overfuelling will create more particules and possibly clog up the DPF, cause a fualt to be logged as it can't cope, and possibly go into limp mode, more of an issue with tuning boxes than a custom map. (afaik)

I see thanks for clearing that up for me pal

It looks as if you're right. The salesman who sold me a 1.9TDI Roomster yesterday said that no 1.9 engines come with a DPF, only the 2.0 engines. But a quick google shows that that's not true. But this table shows that 1.9TDI Roomsters with a DPF produce 145 CO2, and 139 without. The Roomster brochure gives 139 CO2, which suggests no UK Roomsters with a DPF.

the only car ive seen with a DPF is the vrs octy. theres a seperate light on the dash for it. theres certainly no light on the dash of my roo 1.9tdi. im inclined to think there isnt one

There is no DPF fitted to mine, I checked the codes.

There are DPF's fitted to them but apparently not in the the UK.

So a DPF actually makes the car dirtier on CO2 emissions?

Yep: 139 without a DPF, 145 with! As they say, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

The Octy Scout has a DPF as well.
