Phatbox + MFD1 - Help!

Featured Replies

I've just installed a phatbox in my Octy1 vRS, in place of the CD changer. All went well except...erm... well it doesn't seem to be working.

I've done a firmware update and It plays the preinstalled discs/tracks. When I try and play mine, it just says they're corrupt :thumbdwn:

The manual says I need to configure the phatbox to a specific VW sterio, which suits me fine as I have a VW MFD. Unfortionatly, the MFD isn't in the list.

I can select from:

VW Premium IV stereo

VW Premium IV N.B. stereo

VW Premium v stereo

WV Premium v N.B. stereo

or

VW Premium VI stereo

I don't know if the track problem is related to the fact that I haven't selected the stereo type, but I want to rule it out anyway.

Thanks :)

Stereo type should be set to 'J' this should be in the literature you got with it.

I don't think that's the problem though. What's the sample rate of the tracks? Try ripping a CD using the phatnoise software and see if that works.

Thanks Eddy, I've checked the manuals and can't see any reference to the MFD, I'm getting tired/irritated with it though, so probably missed it.

I've been using the propper software, I'll keep trying.... I've probably got a setting wrong somewhere :)

Thanks again.

I have a Phatbox but on the back of a MFD2.

What format are the tracks in? It will play very low bitrate WMA's (128kbps only I think) but for better sound quality I use 320kbps MP3's. Also be wary of the sample rate mine refused to add some tracks sampled at 48khz.

If it plays track 1 "Welcome to the Phatnoise car audio experience" then there can't be much wrong.

Sorry mate but what head unit are you using?

I'm using a VW MFD1 (Mk1 Octy). I put some MP3's from my computer into a playlist and added it, they play fine so it looks like all is well :D I just need to get the encoding right :)

There's slight interfearance, its only noticable when the music is quite quiet, I guess there's nothing I can do about that. Fortionatly it's not very noticable.

Generally I'm really pleased with it, just need to familiarise myself with it now.

Both of mine came with a seperate booklet (just A4 sheets stapled in the corner) listing all the stereo types with photo's and matching selection letter.

The noise can be fixed with a regulator, there's some how to's floating about on the internet.

I'm glad to see it's working. When I bought mine there was no documentation but I got everything from the Phatnoise website here. They even responded to an emailed question. Volkswagen PhatNoise Digital Car Audio System

I'm sure you'll agree that it is a top toy. :D
