Felicia idiot lights

Featured Replies

Hi from bluskoda

I have just found this forum thro google, and hope you can help me with a problem with my felicia. The two "idiot lights" in the centre of the instrument panel fail to illuminate when the side/headlights are switched on. I would appreciate advice on how to access these lights, I presume the dash panel has to be removed, but how?

Also, the adjuster for the headlight hight setting is no longer working. This seems to be some sort of hydraulic system, is there any way to rectify this problem?

Sorry if these subjects have been covered before, but going through all the forum on my dial up connection takes sooooooooooo long.

The headlight adjusters always fail on the Felicia - you can adjust manually on the light units themselves. I don't think I have had one Favorit / Felicia with this working (I have had 4!).

The bulbs in the switches aren't too bad to do. You can take the black section of the dashboard off relatively easily - you will see the curved dummy panels at the end of the switches - carefull prise these out, and the ones in the middle of the air vents. You will find screws behind these, undo them all, and then you will have to carefully pull the black section out - held by some further clips. Once you have done this you will have access to the switches and will be able to get to the bulbs more easily (within the switches).

Hope this helps a bit.

you may find that taking the steering wheel off helps if you are taking the clock unit out.

As for the light bulbs on the instrument panel, before getting screw driver happy, check all the fuses in the box and look for any signs of dampness. Also check the actual operation of the lights externally too. Do the other dash indicators come on? (Hazards, rear de-mister etc). After all that and if no joy, try giving the fusebox a firm tap (so not to damage it but shake it).

The head light adjuster needs to be replaced as a whole unit if it's the same as the Favorit one and it isn't worth the money IMO. It's controlled with some sort of antifreeze solution that eventually leaks out.

Just be careful too.

My oil pressure light went pop and took the car to my mechanics.

The dash came off easily enough (dummy panels, unscrew and off it pops)

Getting it back on? a little tricky as the speedo cable kept popping out.

A good trick is to un-screw the speedo drive cable from the geabox then you can pull it through a bit to give yourself some more length on it to work with.

I like it!

indead, the felicia is the only car were it is easyer to take the engine out, than to take the clocks out.

I'm surprised at that, it's amazingly easy on the favorit. 6 screws in total I think.

Yer, but taking the engine out isn't going to make changing broken switch bulbs any easier ;):D

Has anybody noticed if you take a felly dash out , that most of the favorit dash is underneath

yes.

Its easy enough... just arkward... taking the steering wheel off and cover from top and bottom (including airbag too)... then removing screws... then easing the whole dashboard suround the unclipping all cables from behind... and the bottom of the dash surround always catches and never like to come out/go in.

The after all that... get the laptop out to reset the airbag controller... But once youve got the dash out... its easy... just unclip the bulbs and replace them! hehehe

hope it's noticable..

cheers :)

This is probably going to sound a bit mental, but give the bit of the dash that comes out a GOOD going over with a hair dryer first. This will warm the plastic up and make it more flexible, then there's just enough give in the dash to get it out without having to remove the steering wheel.

Or wait for the weather to warm up like I did. Skinny wrists also help, but be prepared to get scratched.

The Felicia dash is only different over the top of the Favorit Dash. the reason they put the black stripe at the bottom of the windscreen is so you don't see the dodgy join between the two!!

The Felicia is identical to the Favorit from the middle down - bar the engines, smoother edges, and slightly better handling its a Favorit
