It has been known for some time that this is the case; it will be possible to open the entire tailgate or just the lower portion; the boot, if you will. Quite a clever idea, if they can engineer it well enough not to rattle itself to bits within five years.

There is another engineering point here; the larger the opening the more the body loses rigidity. It will be interesting if they can maintain the impression of quality and solidity with the entire rear end missing from the body shell.
