Blew my stereo... Help choosing new one...

Featured Replies

Hey guys... blew up my strusty aldi special tevion car stereo yesterday and need help choosing a new one...

I was thinking along the lines of something like this:

http://www.motor-world.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod_id=12789

But don't know if its any good...

Also like the idea of this one:

Sony MEX-BT2500 CD Player from Halfords Price £119.99 Free Store Fitting

But on the other side of things... can i go wrong for £50?:

Kenwood KDC-237SA CD Player from Halfords Price £49.99 Half Price Store Fitting

Pioneer or Alpine wouldn't touch anything else.

What's your top budget? I have a Pioneer DEH-7900UB, paid £230 and I think it's great. I have a 120gb hard disk connected to it hidden under the ash tray (usb connects to the rear) with a good selection of MP3's on it. There is a limit to how many you can put on but can't remember off the top of my head, I think I have more than 40gb on there anyway, and have them organized as starting #compilations and then a-z folders, which on opening brings up folders with artist names, then under that album names. There are problems with some hard disks being incompatible in terms of the power they need so need to carefully select hard disk for it.

Takes about 2 minutes to create an index each time it's turned on before it plays anything but that's not bad considering all the music there, and you can listen to a CD or the radio while it's doing that anyway.

The sound quality is also an improvement on the cheapie goodmans that came with the car and shows off the 6x4" Blaupunkt speakers that came with the car as standard - but I guess any reasonable brand, like Sony, JVC, Pioneer, Kenwood etc would sound good.

If it's wired to a switched ignition positive, when you stop the car the front rolls down automatically and it beeps to remind you to take it.

It's £190 here. http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/6361/referer/rc_froogle.html - just noticed some of the specs seem inaccuate on that site, so would check with Pionner site to be certain.

I must say i like sony's... had one in my polo a few years back and gave out really good sound.

I either want an aux in or ipod connectivity i think.

Or an SD card slot as thats what my current one has.

My top budget is around £130 really.... but would like to pay as little as possible of course...

If price is king and brand doesn't matter I saw some stereos in LIDL today £50, I think they have some sort of USB/MP3/card function.

Or there's this one Extra Value CD/VCD/DVD/MP3/MP4 FM Reciever with USB/SD - Ebuyer Can't say I've tried either but they'll probably be on-par with the previous Aldi Tevion stereo.

Or how about this one if you can find stock anywhere. Buy Sony CDXTGT616 CD Radio with USB. at Argos.co.uk You can pick up cheapie USB SD readers which should work if SD is important.

Sony CDXTGT616 CD Radio with USB. 5005213 Product detail

Half Price £64.99 Was £129.99

I used to like Sony until we went through 4 in one car and 3 in another all under warranty then the new ones went pop outside of it :(

I rate kenwood and pioneer headunits very highly myself.

If you're not running amps etc then they have good drivers in them. The kenwood would be fine for £50, but the sony does have bluetooth hands free in it by the looks of things.

I'd avoid the unbranded motorworld one at all costs.

Any interest in buying my old CDX-MP80 and 10 disk changer?

1068

It has MP3 support on CDs and an Aux input plus hordes of other features.

How much you after for it?

Thanks

I've just checked ebay , and similar spec Sony head units have ended at about £100 and changers with cables seem to fetch about £30. Any less than that and it's not really worth me selling it.

The head unit was originally about £280 and the changer £100ish

Tis probably more than i want to pay really... besides... think im set on getting one with ipod connection...

How about this one guys:

Pioneer HEH-P6900IB

I can get it for £150 from amazon!

Looks pretty much the same as mine, although don't think it has motorized front panel, not that it's a critical thing.

Bad camera work.... But ipod browsing looks quite acceptable.

i hadan alpine one til sum **** nickd it,now i have a pioneer one,but i much prefer the alpine in terms of usability and sound quality, both had rca inputs for my 30 gb creative zen vision:m

Hi

I'm a fan of sony myself and have just fitted a gt610 to my octy which is in your budget and does all you'd like it to do.

IMHO its a win-win situation!!

If you need any advice regards fitting feel free to PM me as I spent 7 years installing ICE and haven't forgotten all as of yet!!

Best of luck

Colin
