Nearside mirror tilting problem

Featured Replies

Nearside mirror tilts down when reverse is selected on my L&K. It no longer returns to the normal position when drive or park is selected. The only way I can get it back to the normal position is by moving the mirror switch to the 'O' position.

I've been in to the maxi dot convenience settings and switched the mirror tilt function off and then back on but I've still got the problem. Am I missing something or is a visit to the dealer required? Thanks for any comments.

Does the mirror return to original position if you press the seat memory button (say 1)?

Nearside = driver side?

Only passenger's side mirror tilts down in my car. Driver side doesnt move at all. And I think this is the normal operation. If it helps, this tilting for parking only works when my mirror **** points to L (right hand drive vehicle)

Is it possble that your memory setting actually stored this tilted position by mistake?

Thanks for that. Nearside in UK = Passenger side = left side. Offside in UK = Driver's side = right side.

The passenger side mirror has been working OK as you describe until today when it stopped coming back when going into drive. All the settings are as you describe. The seat memory didn't have any effect. I'm now fairly certain that there is a fault.

Since it is tilting down, there are no mechanical/electrical faults.

Before you make a trip to the dealer, can you redo the memory settings and see if it helps? My guess is that the 'return' position of the mirror is the one stored in the memory settings.

Mine goes back up only when I drive off forward and get to some speed (don't know which), but I guess it's the same moment reverse parking sensors switch off as well.

Yes. It is 20KMPH in my case. Doors too get locked.

I thought the speed that had to be exceed for mirrors was 5mph?!

I'm not sure what the actual speed is but I think it's about 10mph. Until that happens the mirror will stay tilted down until you either turn off the ignition or set the mirror control away from 'L'.

When the mirror is tilted down you can adjust the position and hit the memory button and it will store the position for next time you hit reverse.

I wonder whether some VAG-COM fettling can change this so that the mirror tilts back up when reverse is disengaged.

:thumbup:You guys are absolutely correct! :For some reason I had it fixed in my mind that the mirror went back to its normal position as soon as drive (or 1st. gear) was selected. I've just checked mine and it does go back to normal at about 5mph.

So you've all saved me a red faced episode at the dealer! :o

Many thanks.

That's what we're all here for.

On mine it doesn't come back at all unless I turn the **** to position "O". Could this be a misconfiguration or a malfunction?
