Front speakers for octy mk1

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend some better speakers for the front doors of a 2003 octy.

I don't want any where I have to mess about stripping the doors so ones with seperate tweeters are no good.

What depth speakers can I put in without spacers.

I understand the diameter is 6.5 inch. Is this correct?

Thanks

The MK I octy has separate tweeters anyway so the wiring should all be there anyway.

I just need some 6.5" speakers then? Any recommendations?

Mk 1 Octavia has quite shallow space for speakers, so i'd definitely recommend buying from a shop where you can try them first in the doors, or a model that is known to definitely fit, rather than just buying from the internet.

I went through two other pairs of speakers before finding some that fit - Pheonix Gold R6.5 componants (~£70) didn't fit, and neither did the cheaper JBL components (~£45 - can't remember the model).

I eventually settled for a pair of Exile XP65 components (~£200, Exile Audio ), as they had an extreamly shallow mounting depth due to their use of neodium magnets.

Fitting components is definitely worth the effort, and quite easy if you use the existing wiring as suggested - you will need 3 pairs of adaptors to connect to the skoda plugs (available from halfords, or much cheaper on-line). A neater way would be to route your own cables - less connections, but as you already mentioned you don't want t strip the doors down. I seem to remember I was able to route the cable by only partially removing the door card, and it wasn't too bad a job.

If you are trying to keep the price down I am sure that Alpine to a set of components designed for MK1. IIRC about £50-60

I'm also looking for a quick, easy, "budget" upgrade for my Octavia Mk 1 front speakers. Some of the crossovers for the component speakers look bulky and I'm not sure where they would fit (where are the crossovers in the original manufacturer's setup?) Looking for simplicity I have looked up the following all-in-one 6.5" speakers that are available cheaply on Ebay:

• FLI Integrator 6

• Kenwood KFC-1750S

• Kenwood KFC-1751S

• Infinity Reference 6012i

• Infinity Reference 6022i

• Infinity 62.7i KAPPA

• Vibe Slick 60

• Alpine E Type SXE-1750S

• JBL GTO-6527S

Does anyone out there know if any of these will fit and whether they are worthwhile budget upgrades, to add a bit more low frequency reponse? I'm not after anything too flash, but having upgraded the OEM headunit to a Sony MP3/USB player I wonder if I can make another incremental improvement by fitting any of the above models?

Thanks for any advice that may be forthcoming (and sorry to follow on this thread with more questions rather than a helpful reply - but I saw the topic and thought I shouldn't start a new thread so similar!)

EDIT: I should mention that all of the above have mounting depths in the range 44 - 54 mm, which is why I have selected them. What's the max depth that will work?

Hi there everyone-i am in a 51 plate octavia now,and this thread ineterests me because i must say i find the standard music system in the octavia offensive to the ears. haha

seriously, has anyone been able to confirm which of the above speakers fit with ease into the fronts of the octy doors....or if not can anyone confirm which i can look at and are easy for a (very) novice to fit?

hey rob, thanks for info..these look like good speakers...with them being,i understand,a speaker and a tweeter combined, would this compromise quality and would it render the existing door tweeters redundant or improve the quality wholesale by adding in effect 2 more front tweeters?... ?.

just to clarify the correct name for those infinitys are they a

6512i or a

6512si or a

Kappa 652.7i 17cm 225W 2-way Speakers?

cheers

they may still work but having 2 tweeters cant be good.

My tweeters are disconnected. The Infinitys sounds pretty good to me - certainly better than the standard ones. The just fit in the door depth-wise

It looks like the ones I have are no longer available. The 652.7i look similar but if I were you I'd try and find a local seller so you can make sure they fit before buying. You can just pop off the plastic cover in the door to get to them, you don't need to take the door apart.

Rob

ive got some infinity reference 6010s. fitted straight in and sound hell of a lot better when turned up loud. not bad for 42 quid on fleabay
