Anyone know the best place to get a Nokia 6500 unlocked (from 3 network) There are loads of places online that will do it for £5 but are they any good?

If I am correct Rob, you are in Wales?? So this may or may not be of help. I get my phones unlocked in the Metro Centre (Gatehead) from a barrow type phone salesman. I think it is about £5-10 from what I remember. So I am guessing that your local giant shopping mall will have one or two ppl who can do this for you.

Giant shopping mall? this is wales, quite a few of the shops round here still shut on a wednesday afternoon (not sure why though). I might venture over the border at the weekend. I think there are a few small phone places like that in Chester.

I've used an online service before now. Did the trick - I'll have a think tomorrow which one it was.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along; there's a few here work in the phone trade. I'd want confirmation on the unlock status for the 6300 and 6500 - whether they can be unlocked successfully etc.

Yeah I read that online last night, I wasn't sure why though. Surely this is just a normal Nokia 6500 with 3 software loaded on it (not like the older 3 phones that seemed to be designed specifically for three!) Can anyone shed any light on why 3 phones are more difficult to unlock?

I only want to get it unlocked so I can sell it to a mate at work but if it turns out to be a big problem, it'll just have to go on ebay.

I as told by the guy that couldn't do my 6630 that 3 won't release the software to unlock the phones to anyone.

I guess Vodafone etc are happy to sell the software on.

I've also heard that 3 will not unlock phones even if you ask them and offer to pay.

I think 3 has a lot of debts to pay back.
