HI

on friday im going to pick up my Octy VRS

and plan on putting a diffrent HU into it on saturday, has any one done this? how do you get the original HU out ??

i notice the standard HU seems slightly larger then a normal DIN unit, will i need a suround to tidy up and unsightly gaps?

also what size are the speakers in the front and rear of the octy VRS?

and the last question if i want to run extra wirs into the cabin from the engine bay where the best place?

Thanks

Joel

The standard unit is Din size in the Octy. Slightly larger in the Fabia. Have a search around as I believe most of us have changed headunits for something a little 'better' !!

Speakers up front are 6.5inch component set. Rear in the hatch are 5 inch component set.

As for running cables.. (And thanks to Des for showing me this)... underneath the scuttle panel on drivers side there is a large rubber grommet that leads straight into the passenger bay.

if you are only looking for something like a 10guage or 8 guage cable then just behind the pollen filter is a grommet fine for this sized cable.

ok thanks for the reply, so whta your saying id if i take out teh standard unit and replace it it shoudl look like it should be there...

it will be 0 gauge going in as i run very big systems.... is that place you have said still acceptable?

ive not even got the car and looked yet just getting a idea in my mind befre i do..

Thanks

Joel

4 gauge will run through with a bit of persuasion, but I think that's about as big as it'll take...

you have got a very big boot to play with joel

I KNOW mmmmm

Big system and i might still have boot space

i could park my old car in the octy boot

I thought the standard h/u was a little bit taller on the front than DIN, as my mates Sony leaves a small gap along the top.

Kenwood did a show car with a passat a while back. They fibre glassed a couple of subs in behind the wheel arches in the boot - hence taking up no real boot space. It sounds like you've got other plans though...

thats what i thought.....

will have a look does the gap look unsightly?

iirc you can just see a bit of tin which is presumably the mounting for the various switches. I read somewhere there is a blanking strip available - maybe try a Skoda dealer as the one I go to seems to have various aftermarket stereos for sale.

The whole is perfect DIN size. It is however common to see after market cages 'sticking out' over the top due to the crappy methods of cage production. I've got a Pioneer in mine at the moment and can't see the cage. I also had a new Kenwood KDC-8027 and you couldn't see the cage. So there isn't a fascia for the Octy !!

As for 0 guage, thats whats going in mine after I come back from holiday in a couple of weeks. i rekon it will go through the grommet with some care. Or if it won't then you might have to look at two separate pieces of 4 guage..

Maybe the later dashes are slightly different?? My friends 51-plate Octy, although the recess is DIN the fashia of the f/fit has an extra strip along the top. I don't think its the cage that is visible. The pocket under the h/unit is different on my 04-plate.

Perhaps I'm wrong?

Think it's the Sony head units which are a different size - IIRC Jap DIN is different sized from the rest of the world...
