TDI whining noise

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone can help out there? My 2001 90bhp TDI has developed a strange whining noise that rises and falls in line with engine revs. Almost as if something that spins is rubbing against something that doesn't (but actually, what do I know?). Everything else behaving normally.

Grateful for any ideas.

BTW - my car's just done 203k miles. Do these things never wear out?

Hi

everything wears out in time

Is it your drive belt possibly?

could be - I replaced both the cam belt and fan belt last year. If if is the fan belt can I fix the noise or is it likely to be a replacement job?

SHMBO isn't in the car at the time is she?

Bill maybe it needs adjusting after you have fitted it they do stretch a little after new or maybe it is too tight and has worn the bearings in the alternator they can make a whining noise like that.
