Squeaky Clutch

Featured Replies

Just noticed it the other day.

After I've been driving for a while, clutch groans when taking off in first gear if she doesn't get enough revs. (Kinda like the noise a bike brake makes when you pull it in the rain) :P

She's just hit 10,500 miles and only just started squeaking.... I'm not detecting any slippage though and she still bites cleanly in the rest of the gears - guess I'm just worried that the clutch may be on its way out. :o

A few of you guys are driving round in seriously tuned cars... and most of you are still running on original clutches - how do you get away without groans and squeaks?

Has anybody else had this?

Sounds like the release bearing.

Is it expensive to fix/replace?

Not sure; you'll have to check with a dealer. But as with most things, the bearing itself is not expensive (£20ish) but replacing it is what incurs the cost as the clutch itself will almost certainly have to be dismantled.

Is it the Octavia with the problem? Won't it be under warranty?

Yeah it still is... it hasn't been a problem today.

I'll keep an eye on it... cheers
