Help parking sensors tow bar problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

just bought an octavia elegance on a 03 plate with parking sensors fitted. was bought from a dealer and had a tow bar on it as well. Everytime i reverse i get a continuos beep. Took it back to dealer and they told me it was cos of the tow bar !!

They said i can take the tow bar off and that will solve the problem.

there must be a way to have both

any ideas would be much appreciated

cheers:confused:

Well, these are really 2 issues:

Based on my experience, a long beep (about 3 secs) and no car display on the stereo in the dash means there is some hard error related to the parking sensors. You will need someone to log on to the car with a diagnose system (e.g. Vag-Com) and figure it out... I'd bet one of the sensors is not working

Secondly, the parking sensors can be adapted for "co-habitation" with the tow bar. There is a question of whether your sensor kit is the original one (OEM)... if this is the case, I am positive it *should* work.

All in all, it looks to me like your dealer knows more than it is saying... If I were you, I'd point out that you can order an Octy with both tow-bar AND parking sensors from the factory, so they are evidently NOT mutually exclusive.

thanks for the quick reply Ill get in touch with my dealer 2morrow - the sensors are factory fitted - didnt know there was supposed to be a display on the stereo either ta v much

You say an '03 plate? It must be an Octavia Mk1

If it is then there will be no display on the stereo and the controller setup may be different to that of the Mk2.

The constant beep is probably one of the inboard sensors seeing the towbar at close range, it will always take the closest measurement of the 4 sensors so it will be ignoring the 2 outboard sensors or maybe even three.

For info.

I have a 57 TSI Hatch with standard reversing sensors(Elegance) and a PCT towbar fitted (non-removable as saves £150~) I expected trouble but not a hint - the tow ball is relatively low compared with the four sensors & in the centre.

thanks dstev does that mean the sensors can be set up to ignore the towbar ??

I have posted simular thead as we have same problem with our A5 Elagance which we had fitted by Witter and when we went back to Skoda he said it was the ball and nothing can be done , however one of the senior staff said hold on he remembers something that Skoda have so he rung them up and as we have a differant loom to the Skoda towing one it wood cost megabucks to rectefy it.So in your case as you have the Skoda one you might be able to ahve the it done .Me i took off the ball cover and it nearly cures it.

There are options in Vag-Com on the Mk2 to set reversing sensors up with or without a towbar, if they are factory fit, then it's something the dealer should be able to tweek

removable tow bar?
