Boost levels and the N75 thingy!

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I have 2 questions that im sure can be answered really easily!:

Is there an accepted 'peak and sustained' boost pressure on a remapped car?

and after all the reading that ive done im still not sure on this, so, is there a way that the N75 valve can be tested?

The reason I ask is that Ive just had a REVO generic remap applied and although chuffed to bits, the maximum sustained boost seems to be a little erratic. Im reading this from a boost gauge, and it seems to be anything from 1.5bar down to 0.8 bar. Additionally, when lifting off the gas in gear the car can jolt sometimes as if the pedal had been floored, then lifted off if that makes any sense. Ive tried another boost gauge to be sure also and they both read the same. obviously the pressure does fall off when getting to high revs. At first I thought it could have been my Forge SPLTR valve being set with the spring too tight, so although Im sure it hasnt changed, I have undone it until it leaks boost, then done it up click by click until it doesnt. Have also re-fitted the standard DV as a base guideline and still does it. I have access to a Vag-Com cable, but only the shareware version of Vag-Com. I will try to do some fault readings tomorrow night, although I would expect the car to go into limp mode if it was reading an overboost situation? Ive experienced this when I had the spltr set fully atmospheric and it was like driving the Mondeo again, but I am not getting this, let alone an EML light. Incidentally, the bulb for the EML does work as it shows when I turn the ignition on!

Is there a way that the N75 could be tested, or am I barking up the completely wrong tree?

Any thoughts?

Many thanks and appologies for the elongated post!

Cheers

Rob

The remap has the levels set in the ecu. you can see whats happening with vag-com by logging the boost pressures (registered version). Vag-com has specified boost and actual boost logs.

1.5 is too high 1.2-1.3 max i should think, which should the taper off to about 0.8 ish

..thanks for the gen.

I plan of popping back anyway at some point. to see about an SPS switch, and to see if they can smooth it out a little bit, and ill get them to check the max boost figures.. Im not too into the whole 'sledge-hammer' accelleration, in my mind it just serves to shock components into an early grave. Besides, if I wanted that Id probably have a cosworth!

Dont suppose anyone knows the things to log in Vag-com (is it blocks?) for the specified and actual boost pressures?

thanks

Rob

hi

a bit back i had an atmospheric DV on and did the vag com thing and was gettin 0.6 press.

then replaced it wi the standard bosch one and put an APR map on and the fella said at max boost i was gettin 1.6 bar?????????

Luckilly i dont have this map anymore. I have a CCCtech one which feels bit less harsh on the boost. however I am not sure on what amount it is.

Block 115 for pressures and block 118 for n75 duty cycle.

The jolts you describe sometimes occur after remap and revo should be able to sort this out

Nice one, saved me trawling the Vag-Com section! I forgot to say in the first post, i 'think' i also noticed the surging jolty feeling when it was standard, most noticable in first gear, but no where near as pronounced.

Ill pop back to the dealer and see what they say. They have been very helpful and did say that if I wanted anything adjusted to pop back. Ill get them to check the boost levels and maybe even drop them down a bit to err on the side of caution..

It might be one of my 2-hour-lunch-break excursions!

Ill let you know how I get on. Thanks for all the replies and info, much appreciated.

Regards

Rob
