Octavia Rear Speakers

Featured Replies

I know this has probably been asked time and time again but i cant find it.

What would be the possibility of putting a 13 cm (50mm mounting depth) full range speaker in the rear of the octavia, instead of the component type?

Or is a component better?

Would this cause any problems sound wise, as i am not sure what exactly a full range speakers is (numpty i know)

I am going to run dls components at the front and boston full range at the rear.

Would the rears be best amped or ran from the head unit (fronts are going to be amped)

Not planning to run a sub as yet.

Mike

Full range just means the speaker has the treble and mid driver in one unit, as opposed to having them separate as in companents.

You shouldn't have any problem mounting 13cm speakers under the side-shelves, though you might have to do away with the "carpet puddings".

You can use the exisiting speaker wire, and then decide from there if it would benefit from running off an amp...

Rob.

Full range speakers have a single cone (as fitted as standard)

Coaxials have a separate woofer and tweeter in the one housing.

Components have a tweeter that can be mounted separately from the woofer.

I have some fairly cheap custom fit Kenwood Coax's that I got from mcs-direct for under 20 quid and they did the job just fine.

You need to get some where the tweeter doesn't stick up too much or it will hit the udnerside of the grill.

Thanks Rob

In your opinion, would this be a good way to go or best getting some components and running the tweeters to the doors?

any reccomendations would be appreciated, for speakers as its a mine field?

I like the DLS components good mid range and not to harsh a tweeter, not sure on Bostons, but they apparently are similar?

Mike

I think it'll be more hassle than it's worth getting the tweeter component into the door, and that you're best sticking with coaxials in the rear.

I just went for cheap Pioneer ones from Halfords on the premise that they are better than the standard ones. You might find that cheap speakers will distort easier in your setup, and spoil the effect from expensive fronts though...

I expect andy_ccr will be better to advise on specific makes and models.

Oh, yes, and what Alex said - make sure the tweeter doesn't stick up too far from the speaker or it'll foul the grille. You can get round this by using longer screws and spacers, but it's something the be aware of! :)

Rob.

Sounds like you getting a bit into your ICE Mike. Would like to here your DLS's once you have them fitted as I'm thinking about a set myself. As for the rears don't bother with comps just get a set of full range. The fabia has comps in the back with the tweeters in the doors and they tend to **** me off a bit as they are right next to your ear.

Thanks guys

Will have a look at some coax then and, make some spacers.

Whatever happened to one speaker did it all!!

Mike

and make some spacers.

Bag of washers... ;)

Like I say though, I did mine cheaply!

No worries John

I need some decent full range/coax in the rear as i have sold my sub and amp for now

Until i can get my speakers sorted.

I like the sound of the DLS. i might try and get the 13cm components in the same range and try and do something with the tweeter? or is that talking utter b***ocks?

As you can tell i aint up on my ice to well!!

:rofl::thumbup:

Thanks for the tip

for best results use components. with separate tweeter and crossovers. Mind u probably not worth doing components if u are going to stick with standard hu.

Jonathan

Already upgraded tge HU

Will have a good look at the options available for comps versus co-ax for the rears.

Mike

If you do get components then get some with tweeters that can be surface mounted and stuck on the top of the side panels in the back.

As for spacers , if you get components then you won't need them.

i went for 2 way pioneers in the back and used 1cm spacers a lad at work gave me (i think they are platform spacers for components in the aerospace ecu's they make here)... anyway they worked fine but i was getting alittle distortion from the plastics in the back quarters, the removal of a spacer the offset the mounting of the speaker and produce alittle flex in the plastics and all was sorted...

Sounds a bit of a bodge but its works for me !

Purely personal preference here, but I'd go for comps in the front, and not bother too much about the rear. I do find it unnatural to hear sound coming from behind you. When you listen to your stereo at home, you position yourself so that the speakers are in front, facing you.

Having said that, I didn't take the install in my fabby lightly. Come to think of it, I'm still high on the resin and fumes  :twirl: :hippy:
