TDI vrs or 2.0 TDI Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Currently have a x reg 1.9 TDI 110 elegance and it's time for a swop.

Would value your thoughts on either going for the TDI vrs or go for the 2.0 140 TDI elegance due to the higher spec (although less fun!). Either would be purchased 2nd hand -as could always chip the elegance.

Thanks

Sam

The Elegance with the sports suspension is a match handling wise with the vRS.

With a remap you will get around 175bhp from a conservative map.

You also get a higher spec.

The vRS looks nicer, is faster out of the box and if you get a late enough model you will get the rear windows, dual climate and the jumbo box that are the main differences in spec between the two

Also depends what your budget is.

The TDI vRS hasn't been around too long so not much about at less than £13k, whereas I could sell you a nice 3.5 year old Elegance for £8.5k!

Originally was say 10k plus my trade in of say 2-3 so max of 13ish depending on how much i then get distracted by a new model! as must admit, i do like the vrs look better.

Thanks for the offer - shame i don't like green.

As mentioned, the vRS has nicer styling all round, but it also has a DPF and may not suit all styles of driving.

I find the seat's in the Elegance I have now more comfortable than the seat's in old 2.0T vRS. The handling is not to shabby with the sports suspension on the elegance and the 17" pegasus alloys look quite nice.

With the budget you have you should be able to pick up a vRS if that fired your rockets or a mint elegance perhaps even with DSG.

You can make some tweaks to the PD140 engine without to much trouble and I have all the nice handling bit's designed for the Mk5 golf GTi fitted to my elegance (Neuspeed ARB's and Drop Links).

It's horses for courses, I preferred my 2.0T vRS to the current elegance, but no way would I swap the Elegance out for a vRS TDi as I don't think there is that much in it performance wise and I would guess that mine may (notice the word may) have a slight advantage over a standard vRS TDi with it's current tweaks.

A good PD140 Elegance, with MaxiDot, Xenons and DSG would be the my preference over a TDi vRS, but I would take a TFSi with DSG over either of them anyday :)

IMHO that is a rather big 'MAY'.

C'mon an extra 30bhp and a load more torque will make a noticeable difference; in a straight line anyway. After that, OK, a tweaked Elegance may just be able to live with a vRS but I don't think it would have any advantage; a lot would be down to the driver!

As for the original question; the cars have clear similarities and differences and a lot will be down to personal preferences 'sport' vs 'comfort' etc. etc. Go and have a look at a couple in a showroom and try and get a test drive as well. That will help you decide.

vRS looks a whole lot better imo but it's down to presonal preferences.

What about an octi sport?

I'd love a vrs but its out of my budget at the moment so the next option was a tdi elegance. However ive seen a few 2.0tdi sports drop into my budget range so have been hunting around.

Whats the general opinion on the sport?

I'd say probably a pretty good compromise in terms of spec level and style (between Elegance and vRS) plus likely to be easily within budget for Farmersam, where he might struggle to find a vRS.

The VRS does look nicer, but personally I like the excellent spec you get with the elegance model.

How important are the extras to you or do you value looks?

If you have it remapped it will be just as fast.

If you have it remapped it will be just as fast.

But surely if you are of the remapping persuasion, you'd remap the vRS too and the gulf is there again :D

I'd personally go for the elegance or the sport - the vRS should be bought as a petrol.

Good idea, and would be best fit, but will want another estate - and have only seen sport option in the hatch - Bugger!

Thanks to all for the replies. Looks like i will be going for the elegance and see if i can find one already fitted with ths sports suspension and 17in alloys as well as maxidot and xenons.

Problem is now trying to find one!! any other good places to look other than Autotrader?

Thanks

Sam

I have a 2.0 TDi Elegance with all the bits, full leather etc..it does 50mpg all the time and is well quick enough 130 no problem in Germany and it looks annonymous, what more do you want?

Oooooh Yes, the 'stealth aspect is good, having come from a 3.2 gsi Vectra which looked just like a standard vectra until you put your boot down! Good enough for 160+ mph (according to the police!)

I think you may be best looking in the dealer network for a car, pehaps even go to your local dealer and get them to hunt one down for you :)
