Fabia Vrs Crank Sensor - Help

Featured Replies

Hi to everyone, 1st post time and a question right from the off!

I'm now on my 3rd vRS, fab, then octy then fab again, and it's just cut out and won't start (2 of you may have seen me getting towed home an hour ago as I passed 2 silver Fab vRS's)

Goggled and searched the forums and I have exactly the same fault and symptoms as posted here: Fabia vRS cut out and now won't start! - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forum and Community

So I've belled the crank sensor as discussed here by VRStu: speed sensor/crankshaft sensor ???? - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forum and Community but this is for the octy vrs...............

My results are 508ohms between 1-2 & infinity between any other combination of pins. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if this is the correct way to test the sensor on my car and do the readings point to the sensor being U/S?

Car is Fabia vRS '04 10th vin charecter 4, engine code ASZ, any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers!

Update:

RMS voltage of the crank sensor between pins 1-2 is 1.5v at cranking, none of the three pins shows continuity to earth.

Also, it 'seems' like its out of fuel or not fuelling, plenty in there and it is diesel. Almost wanted to start a few times but no joy, just fires once then continues being cranked, strange that whatever it is caused such a sudden failure. Good job I had the momentum to roll into the services parking.......

Tried again this morning and it fired, ran for about 2 seconds then died and now it's back to just cranking

Anyone had a similar fault and could shed some light on this?

Cheers

Mine has a sensor fault like this, I used some easy start which made it fire up - used to happen every once in a while.

I know there is a fault on mine but as the engine is getting changed anyway I'm not going to fix it for now. Once the old engine is out I can get the sensor sorted cheaply and then the problem will go away - but I am just living with it for now.

Take the fuel supply off the filter and crank, see if you are geting fuel.

Right, just got back from fitting a carpet down the sis in laws and onto the car again

Can anyone give me the whereabouts of a relay plan for the car as I just went to halfrauds and read the haynes manual but it offers no info on the designation of the relays at all

Alternatively could someone name the functions of these?:

103

447

18

393

469

103 is the main powr relay that supplies the engine control unit etc.

Do you have a live and earth at the fuel lift pump?

Yeah theres power to the pump and also when cranking but does drop considerably (cranking)

I've checked 103 and found no fault with it. It's operating correctly on the bench but in the car it seems to flutter when I crank it over but I guess that's more to do with the brief power loss you get sometimes when the key goes from on to start positions
