CD Changer Magazine stuck in unit

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I had this query on the end of another thread which has been sorted, my problem is I had a '98 Golf GT Tdi before my Fabia and I had the dealer fit the 6 CD Changer from that into the Fabia. So I whipped the Changer out last week to bang on e-bay as it won't work with the Alpine HU I've just acquired and like a prat I forgot to eject the CD carrier from the changer beforehand. No problem I thought I'll plug it back in and eject it, the Head unit would not see the Changer no matter what I did so I was still stuck. I have since taken the car back to the dealer to get the original Head unit removed in readiness to fit the Alpine and the Technician reckoned plugging the Head unit back in again would re-set the units and it would see the Changer - nope no good. So I'm stuck with the changer with the magazine still in it - is there any way I can just put a feed to it to get the magazine to eject and if so which wires do I use in the plug (it's the rectangular type with about a dozen wires).

Anyone got any ideas?

so have you tried plugging back the changer into the orginal HU?? or have you tried plugging it into the Apline...i tell thee now theres no way the Alpine will ever see the changer...it should work straight away in an original HU if it dont i fear there may be a fault with the changer so you will have to take it comeplet apart to rescue your cd's ...find someone local with an orginal unit..hook it up to theres..

with out the unit infornt of me i wouldnt know what wires do what? but assuming it is the same unit thats in my octy the wires will be something like this... audio out, front left, front right, back left. back right, some sort of remote on off 12v, earth and a live approx 12 wires..now in theroy you should be able to run a 12v source into the chnager and eject the mag...a good start will be to look for a red and black for live and earth respecfully...and maybe a yellow or blue for the remote..

the other way is to take it too a 'freindly' car audio shop and see if they cna advise you on what wires do what or see if they can hook it up for you to remove the mag...

I sort of have the same problem with my changer - I changed the head unit and forgot to eject the magazine. I haven't yet tried plugging the Skoda unit back in though.

Thanks for the advice lads, my original HU is back with Skoda at the moment as it has a problem with skipping usually around the 3rd and 4th tracks on a CD so I won't get that back for a week or so yet. But the Father-in-law is coming to the rescue tomorrow with his original HU out of his Octy so with any luck I can use that - if that doesn't work it's back to the drawing board. One thing I have noticed though, is under the passenger seat in my Fabia where the Changer was sited there is a yellow plastic 'box' with a couple of wires attached could this be an inline fuse to the changer? if so that may have blown. Something else to look at.

I'll keep you posted.

Adrian
