Second that, I downloaded a setup PDF for my Tosh when I got it. Got a virtually spot on picture with the instructions from avfourms.

first thing is to turnteh picture settings off the brghtest setting (i forget what the settings called, but its really only there for use in the shops, when the tvs are next to really bright lights) then turn the actuall brightness and backlight down a tad.

extends the life of the set ;)

It's called "Vivid" and you definately want to turn that off, unless you like people with a certain fluorescent radioactive skin tone :D

Safe settings to go for are:

contrast 80

brighness 50

colour neutral

backlight around 5

Those are generally asthetically pleasing settings :) There is a lot of tweaking you can do, including going into the service menus and changing the settings slightly. Of course, YMMV depending on the panel and what not. Also, if you do decide to go in service menu, make a note of all the default settings so you can go back!

Also note that you can have a single picture setting for all your inputs or each input can have their own independant setting which obviously is better as you can fine tune depending on the source (although you'll have to repeat it x times!)
