Biodiesel use in 05 Fabia 1.4l/59kw TDI PD

Featured Replies

After perusing various threads on biodiesel, I'm still not quite sure whether or not I should use it in my Fabia.

I've seen mention that EU4 engines shouldn't use biodiesel and in fact it says in the handbook that my particular engine is 'prohibited' from using biodiesel conforming to EN14 214.

Can someone explain to me why this is the case?

What problems would I face it I ignored the advice in the handbook (not that I'm going to until I've got a full understanding!)?

IIRC, it's because of the particulate filter on EU4 engines. I don't know whether yours is new enough to be EU4, though. I'm pretty sure my (EU3) ASZ engine is OK for biodiesel use, as long as the fuel filter is replaced with the oil...

I think the 1.4l/59kw engine is the only one which is EU4 on my model of Fabia (55 plate).

It's down to you and you need to take a chance.

If you have a DPF I wouldn't really risk it but if you dont then give it a whirl. You really only go up to about b30 (30%) anyway so your options are limited.

Is it a case of EU4 engine = have a DPF?

Is there anywhere I can check my engine coding to confirm?

As far as I know, yes. Don't know the engine codes myself, but there should be something in your manual. If that doesn't help, I'm sure someone on here will. That, or a quick furtle on Google!

From an earlier post:

Basically it says you're OK with 5%. Build date between 2000 and 2006 (wk26) can be run on 100%. After wk26 2006 don't do it! I assume that if it's OK to run on 100% it should be OK to run on 30%. However, if your build date is after wk26 2006, who knows:eek:

:nono: That's a bit rich - he said he'd read other threads, but that his handbook said he shouldn't use it. To be honest if I'd read on here that you could use it, but then looked in my handbook and read that I couldn't, I'd probably post a question on here too...

Why would you post a question? Either you believe your handbook knows better than here, or you believe here knows better than the handbook. All you'll get from here when you post a question on biofuel stating that the handbook says you shouldn't use it is some **** giving his opinion that the manufacturer is trying to rip you off and use it anyway. If you don't believe me go and look at some of the other threads on this topic.:finger:

Decron is spot - no Mark 1 Furby has a DPF. Carfolio.com is good, if you put in Fabia in the search bar it shows that alot of the new Mk 2 Furbys has a DPF fitted, but no Mk 1 does.

If you head to this link and look at the Fabia thats second from the bottom - you will see DPF listed next to this - which is a Mk2. I believe this website to be fairly accurate.

Search on "fabia" - Carfolio.com car specifications pages
