Loud vibrations

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Octavia 2001 TDi has started to make very loud vibrations from the front under acceleration. It dies down when at a constant speed and is most noticable between 1.5k and 2.5k revs. It is hard for me to tell which side it is coming from but I can feel the vibrations from the cockpit. The engine is fine as there is no noise when not in motion. The vibrations are very loud inside the car but apparently unnoticable from the outside.

A friend of mine think probable wheel bearing. I am clueless with cars so any ideas?

Thanks.

DMF ?

Inner CV joint ?

a wheel bearing would be a constant noise , getting noisier with speed or cornering depending on which bearing is faulty

I had a loud vibration on mine and it was a shield come loose directly under the gearshift area.

Hi, what is DMF? And how much would it be likely to cost? Also if it inner CV joint how much would that be?

Thanks.

DMF - Dual Mass Flywheel. £lots. There's already a good explanation of what it is and how it differs from a conventional one on here somewhere.

No idea about the cost of the CV joint either.

Would a failing DMF cause vibrations at low engine speeds and higher gear ?

Eg, sitting at 30mph in 4th in my Fabia causes vibration when i accelerate, as if it's the wrong gear, maybe it is right enough...

But just wondered.

it vibrates because you are using max torque to accelerate in maybe the incorrect gear , this is quite normal , but is best avoided for the longevity of the DMF

Excellent, only had the car for a short time, so still getting used to it.

It's just a pain when it does it at 65 in 6th.

knock it down to 5th or don't do full throttle at that speed in 6th
