Hi All,

I have recently had my 2003 Octy VRS remapped by Spitfire Performance with a Jabba map and so I thought I would share my experiences with you all in a sort of mini review style.

After spending a lot of time reading forum reviews on various different remaps available and getting quotes from local providers, I finally decided to go for a Jabba remap. I emailed Jabba and they recommended Spitfire Performance in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

I had not heard of Spitfire Performance before and found little on the internet (other than a couple of forum posts and, of course, their own website). It turns out that the business has only been in its current form for a few months and before then I believe they were just professional IT Support guys (and still are) but with a passion for homebrewed performance and racing. Only recently have they decided to put these skills to good use and make a professional business out of it.

Last Saturday I drove over to Spitfire Performance and met with Chris Wright. It was evident that Chris has a real passion for performance tuning, and it is especially great that he focuses this passion on VAG motors. Chris seems to work closely with Jabba but he also has hands-on experience of other remap providers (and I think he said has even made his own custom remaps in the past). Most of his experience seems to come from working with Jabba.

Chris downloaded the ECU map from my VRS and sent it over to Jabba. Unfortunately, being a Saturday, the guys at Jabba were out racing so I agreed to return later in the week. It is worth noting that I think Jabba are usually about on Saturdays but I just got unlucky.

Last Friday afternoon I returned to Spitfire Performance and Stuart, one of the mechanics from the unit next door, uploaded the Jabba remap (apparently Chris was down at Jabba with a heavily customised BMW). Stuart said he had been a mechanic next door for about 5 years (not sure where he was before that) but he has been racing cars and bikes since a teenager. He seemed to now his stuff and now works closely with Chris. The remap only took a couple of minutes to upload and I was off!

Over the weekend I was away in Derbyshire with some friends so the car was packed with 4 adults, 1 child and a boot crammed with a weekend’s worth of gear and food. The VRS drove effortlessly. Above 3,000 rpm the car accelerated strong and steady; giving confidence to overtake safely. But under 3,000 rpm it performed much the same as before: sensible and economical.

On my way up the M1 to work this morning, I was finally able to give the VRS a chance to perform. Above 3,000 rpm there seems to be an endless supply of power and the car seems to accelerate smoother. Before the remap I was a little disappointed with the VRS’ performance. It was hard to say why I was disappointed but I think I just found it a bit boring. Now, with the Jabba remap, the car just feels overall more satisfying to drive. I am sure a lot of these feelings are psychological but I am very happy with the remap.

Many thanks to Chris and his colleagues (and of course Jabba Sport) for providing an excellent remapping service. I can highly recommend Spitfire Performance to anyone living in Yorkshire so if you live in the area and have not had your car remapped yet, get down to see Chris because you will not be disappointed! :D
