poor radio reception

Featured Replies

My friend has a mk2 octy estate, very nice car (I want one but the wife doesn't like them...so I am biding my time) however the only problem he has is the radio reception is poor unless the signal is very strong, he cant get AM at all, so the sport on 5Live is off the menu!.. is this a common fault? it does flag up a aerial fault via vagcom some times.. I can't remember exacly what it is off the top of my head....

where do folks suggets we start looking? we had the radio out the other week to fit a hands free kit (the problem was there before we did that) and the aerial was plugged in etc, so I can only guess its either a fault with the aerial its self on the roof, or the base of the aerial? (I belive it is a amped aerial like other vw cars??)

any poiters would be greatly recieved,

cheers

Karl

Hold the menu button in for 10 seconds and the display will change. If the top left says ANT OFF then the aerial base is faulty. There is an amplifier in the base that gets corroded.

Reception on the Nexus system on mine has gone crap recently. I suppose a new base (if that's the problem) on that is going to be more expensive as it's going to have the GPS gubbins in it as well,no?

Does anyone know if the mk5 golf base fits ok? As I can buy a mk5 base from Tps on its own, where as the octavia comes with the mast also..
