120 half shaft bearing replacement and new s100 floor pan

Featured Replies

hello, been a while!!

needing to replace the half shaft bearings on my 120, g reg, its one of the few things i've not ever done on my rwd skoda's.

sounds fairly straight foward but is there any must do's or any recomended procedures.

<<edit : the car has the halftshaft assembly from my 74 as the 120 one snapped a while back>>

looking in the haynnes manual it seems a case of stripping the drum etc from the outer end, pressing the shaft back, pulling it foward to get a puller on the bearing and popping it off, the main Q there is the refitting of the bearing, what stops the half shaft pushing bak into the casing / transaxle (procedure with it still in the car.

or is it a case of removing the half shaft from the car to do it

what specialist tools or whats the best puller / press to get / use for the job

i do have my own epic hub puller and acess to a hydraulic press at work

also, anyone know if or where i can get a new floor pan for an S100, started resto on my 74 saloon at last

it would probably benifit from a roof skin too.

Is it the bearing behind the drum, best to pull it out using extractor or skoda bearing puller, have you got a hub puller, where are you..

the noise turned out to be the speedo cable grinding away in the tranny, (Leave it !!!), after a few days of the noise i was becomming less convinced it was the bearing as i havent had any go within the milage of the axles, it always sounded like it might just be a seal or something stuck in the drum, had a brain wave and reversed the car up a ways then went foward and it faded right away, oh and the speedo had stopped working, took a week to realise that !!

who uses a speedo on an estelle? lol

thanks for the personal massage Paul
