Sounds to me like a boost pipe has come of as above, check the pipe that runs alongside the coolant tank down to the intercooler also

Yeah definatly joe mate agree with the beading I've made a couple of cuts in the end of my stainless pipe and bent to little ends up just so the jubilees have something to nip up too Mikalors are probably the best thing to use also -

Must have just been he way you've worded it mate when you mentioned restrictions in the down pipe it came across as you still had the standard downpipe on with a cat back system with no boxes my bad -

I've recently put a piper decat downpipe on mine with a piper cat back system with no silencers so basically it's just one straight through pipe now and I'm considering taking the decat pipe off. When booting it its crazy loud! Don't get me wrong the noise you get when idling is nice will try and get a video up tomorrow of the full system -

The type A is the correct one for the connection to the top of the intercooler mate -
Make sure timing belt and water pumps been done mate also FSH would be a plus, never seen a white mk1 before personally which makes me wonder has it been bumped and possibly a respray? Just a possibility

Deffinatly would recommend doubling the jubilees up not so bad on the couplers as they have the bead around but on the stainless pipe I've doubled both ends up, and maybe try cutting a bit more off the 45 bend mate not to much that you leave yourself short though its a case of taking it off bit by bit, not taking enough off meens the pipe is pushing out over on itself if you get me :/ haha
