    I use VAGTacho and VAGCommander, both will pull the codes. I do have another bit of software on the laptop to read the the immo chip direct over OBD, can't remember what it's called now though

    Pins 3&4 are heater circuit, pin 3 is blue/red, pin 4 is white.

    I'm pretty sure it won't make any difference at all. In theory it'll be more accurate the closer it is to the throttle body.
     
    Just for example you had the sensor before the cooler reading 20psi, but the cooler had a small hole in it, the inlet manifold could only be getting 15psi
