  1. StickyMicky... Firstly, thanks for the reply, and secondly, thank you very much for that kind offer, that would be absolutely brilliant!!!! Can you hold onto them for me, and I'll PM you, to get organised for the carriage.. Again, you're very kind.. Jim
  2. Hi folks.. My Mk1 (1999) Octavia needs the headlights changed. It has the really old ones, the ones with all the directional lines in the glass.. I can't seem to get any of these, and I'm wondering, do the next generation ones fit straight in?? The ones that are clear glass, from abt 2001?? Thanks..
  3. That’s the both of them only abt 12 months ago. I take it out and clean it regularly, then stick it back in the shed.
  4. Oh it’s completely ready for test. I got everything done abt 2 months ago. It was only a showcar up until I bought it, and it’s full Colour Concept.. There’s only around 80k miles on it from new. For my mileage, I’d just need Diesel. Ahhhh I’ll probably just let it lie and buy something else...
  5. Yeah Ken. I was only thinking of it to get a bit of use out of the Golf. It’s a kinda waste sitting under covers. I’ll probably end up not bothering, and just buyin another octy lol.
  6. As much as it pains me, i have to accept that my mk1 has done its job, as has to be retired!!! best part of 10 yrs for 750 quid wasnt bad mind lol... I'm a VW & Octy fan, and i have a beautiful '97 mk3 GTI Golf that i bought from a guy in West Sussex, on Club GTI, over 13 yrs ago, drove it for 3 yrs, and its been in dry storage, under covers, for abt 10yrs.. The complete driveline is absolutely perfect in the Octavia, the 1.9 TDI's never die, and i'd love to swap the whole lot into my Golf, to make it feasible as a daily driver!!! I hate having it laying in the shed, as it's a gorgeous wee car, i'd love to be able to justify driving it.. With the fact that i'd have the complete Octavia sitting there, would it be a big job?? I don't think either cars have much in the line of fancy electronics.. I have a really really good mechanic that does the majority of my work.. Thanks for any advice.. Jim
  7. You were on the money.. I took off the door panel, and there was no membrane at all, obviously removed years ago, prior to my time owning it.. I'm not gonna have the time to get at it properly until next week, but ill have to get it sorted... cause bloody awful steaming up on the windows lol... Thnx again
  8. Its mad, but everyone I meet, that owns one, loves it lol.. They're really popular here in Ireland, especially with farmers etc, they love 'em.. I was talking with a guy only this week who has his 10 yrs, his son is a skoda mechanic in Co Cavan, and reckons that the newer ones, albeit, great cars, are coming into the dealer for way more repairs than the older ones.. I'll be keeping mine until it really is done... if that ever actually happens lol
  9. Ok guys, a little advice needed from some of the more tuned in members than myself .. My mk1 always has a little bit of surface water on the passenger side carpet, and sometimes in the rear too.. I've had the scuttle off and checked the drains behind the pollen filter, everything is tiptop there.. When it lay at work for a few days this week, I came back to the same on the front carpet. and I noticed it seemed to be lying on the inner sill.. On slightly closer inspection, it seems to be coming from the underside of the actual passenger door, where the door panel meets the inner skin... Is this actually possible?? I cant seem to see any drain holes on the door!! Maybe I just haven't looked hard enuf yet. Any advice, as usual, would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks.. Opti..
  10. Loved watching that .. My mk! has 300,000 miles and has never ever let me down, not in the 9 yrs i've owned it.. I bought it for £750 and it nct's first time every year!!! This year it cost me £17 for a set of steering rack rubbers, and 20 to get them fitted!!!
  11. My '99 Octavia, 1.9tdi, 90bhp, has 297,000 miles, the engine or box have never been stripped, and it's still doing 60mpg on a decent long run!! I'd go absolutely anywhere in it, and wouldn't cost me a thought.. I took it from Donegal to West Cork, with a detour in between, which totalled 1150 miles, and had to do it all on 2 days, and it never missed a beat!!! I've done that route twice in the past 2 months, and doing it again shortly. They are a brilliant car!!!!
  12. I'd definitely be fixing it, if the body and rest were good. My '99, 1.9tdi, 90bhp, has 297k miles on it, I bought it 8 yrs ago for £750 and I'm putting a clutch into mine very shortly. It has never never never let me down.. not once. And it's still doing 60mpg on a decent long run!!!
  13. Great simspj. Thnx for that, I'll get sorted now.
  14. Nige8021. Thnx for the reply. I've already done away with the central locking anyway, the one loom for that, and windows, was playing up. Good to know that the internals are the same. Thnx again.
  15. Again, my mk1 Octavia '99. I've had fierce trouble with broken and cracked wires for the electric windows. I only use the car for myself for work now, and I'm just wondering, if I get manual windows and matching door cards, are the mounting points and blot holes etc, on the inner door skin the same?? Someone told me that they thought the boltholes on the inner skin might be different. Thnx for any help on both my posts.
